I’m just curious what everyone thinks about school uniforms. I’m all for it! I’ve priced them at Old Navy and the GAP, and it’s cheaper to buy uniforms rather than buying a regular outfits. It would cost parents less to dress our kids in uniforms, and it would save us from having to hear them say “I don’t know what to wear today!”
I stopped by the Court House twice today with questions about qualifying for the upcoming primary. Noon and again around 2:30 PM.
Unfortunately the room was set up but no one was there. It would seem that someone should be present during advertised hours. We may miss out on some viable candidates if folks have to come back again and again hoping to catch someone on duty.
I would like to ask where is the help for our county dirt roads???…. Will they ever pave Carters Mills rd … Kinda crazy that they would pave a road that hardly noone lives on but wo’nt even pave one that School bus take everyday and the people that live down it … I must say that everyone pays taxes and everytime there is a bus thats torn up who pays for it WE DO … so why not pave the dirt roads that need it most… well i will tell you why because we have some people that won’t give up one little peice of land to the county department so it can be done … I mean i know he is not driving on this ruff road everyday so why not give up a lil tiny peice of your land so we dont have torn up cars and trucks and also our school bus… i can say this , if you are trying out a new car and would like to see if it would hold up in any kind of road condition then travel down carters mill rd , if it’s still together in one peice by the time you get back up it then buy it … i would like something done about this road … the grading is not doing any good when they come down here … why not put gravel down it or pave the dang thing… or maybe the county will pay for any damage my car gets from now on … Or maybe our new man that will be running for this area can help us … i mean he did say he would help with what people need … so lets see if he can get something done …
I just read on the BainbridgeGa.com home page the Community Article titled “Can You Help Define Our Problems?” This survey seems like a great way to give notice to what we as citizens feel are the issues that are important to us in Decatur County. Sure its not all encompassing, but its a great start.
It looks to me like you can open it as a Word document, fill it out and then email it back, mail it back or fax it back.
If you haven’t checked it out, please do. I think we should try to get as many of these back to Family Connection as possible, so spread the word about this survey.
For those of us that live in the city, our trash will continue to be taken care of, even if it is at an additional cost when the landfill closes.
But what about county residents, what are you going to do with your trash soon?
Comments on the new County Solid Waste Committee?
Is this county operating with a lack of employees? Has there been a county crisis? What could have caused an excess of 46,000 paid in overtime for a two week period?
I am wondering why Bainbridge and Decatur County have such rough railroad crossings and who is responsible for those crossings( Govt or Railroad). There is not a track within this County that is not excessively rough. I believe this is dangerous because you can damage the integrity of your undercarriege and not know it. I travel a good bit throughout the Tri-State area and have noticed most other Counties and Cities have the crossings with the metal and rubber plating and seem to be pretty smooth. Who would one complain to ?
Has anyone noticed this problem.? Its a shame the County and City can spend all the money they spend on roadwork only to have your vehicle damaged by a rough crossing.
I read the column about why we should never shop at ebay. I would like to state that if you do not know for sure beyond the shadow of a doubt how reputable a company is do not never ever give out any information along the lines of credit card and debit card numbers.

Having read about some of the discussions that were held at the retreat, I have to say that I am deeply disturbed at the comments made about police retention. First I believe that all police officers are greatly underpaid and under funded. Second I am in agreement that retention is an issue.
However, blocking officers’ ability to moonlight at the sheriff’s department does not solve the problem nor does a quarterly award.

OK, today as I look in the paper, I see that five babies were born. Only problem is that all five are to unwed parents.
Give me a break. Need I say more?
I just want a simple answer. Why has the Oil Companies such as Exxon and ect. made record profits? I heard myself that these companies made such high profits it set records for any company anywhere in history! If gasoline is more expensive to pump out of the ground and if bad weather from last year had anything to do with this factor determining prices then why all the record profits of all time for any company?
Something smells rotten to me. Maybe I do not understand everything that goes into this process of determining our gasoline prices. I know that the local gsoline stations have to buy our gasoline utilmately from these Big Oil Companies but again why record profits to such an extent that it blows all records for any type of company out of the water?
What do you readers think? Maybe some of you can enligten us and justify this apparrent greed.
I’m concern about what is going on here in Decatur County with our youth. There is a lot of kids everyday, getting in trouble with the law, getting kicked out of school and getting involved in wrongful activities. What is the community doing for these kids? Well, we have here in bainbridge a YMCA and that’s great only if they are following the Mission Statement which is: “We build strong kids, strong families, strong communities.
YMCA is a nonprofit community service organization whose mission is to build strong kids, strong families and strong communities through programs that develop a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all individuals. Guided by the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility, the Y is an organization of inclusion for all ages, all incomes, and all abilities, and widely crosses all races and religions, ethnicities and gender.
There are a fews words that stick out in this statement and they are: nonprofit, all individaul, all incomes. How many of you out there honestly think the Bainbridge YMCA is following this mission statement? Most kids in this community that are getting in trouble are children from low income families. Low income family can’t afford to sign there kids up for the YMCA. Maybe Bainbridge YMCA have their own mission statement. How can you help when you put a price on helping. Please comment!
I’m sorry to be the bad guy here, but this is a subject that has ticked me off since we moved here. I’ve been saying for years, “nobody goes to school anymore.” I see it is never more true than here. How many school weeks are there? 36? (180 school days/5 days per week). On average, I see about 1000-1200 absentees reported for the school system per week. So, 36,000 - 43,200 absentees per year! So they had a reduction of 4,000?!? Not impressed. I know for a fact that the guidelines are more lenient than what is posted, but I suppose that’s fair since they are “guidelines.” I will argue the guidelines are a joke.
Here’s another approach. Round the numbers. On average say there are 1,000 absences per week and 5,000 students in the system. That’s a absenteeism rate of 20%. That number gets washed out when reported by individual schools. I’ve seen it over 30% for the week before. I watch it every week.
When I was a kid, we went to school. I missed school once in kindergarten for chicken pox and once in second or third grade for whooping cough. That’s it. We WENT to school. We didn’t miss school for sniffles or head aches or pink eye or runny noses or colds or rashes or aches and pains. We didn’t have snow days. We didn’t have doctor appointments during the day. We WENT to school.
I certainly don’t blame the teachers. Their job is to teach. I’m iffy on the school board. My feeling is there should be a LAW and therefore I look to the local or state government for a fix. I’m sure I will be long gone before that ever happens.
City Leaders welcomed your comments on what we need to do for Bainbridge for discussion at their annual retreat March 29-30. This included problems to overcome and positive directions that should be emphasized. Article Here
