The firefighter’s lawsuit against Decatur County is becoming a little more clear. Sources have told us of a meeting several months ago with County Administrator Jim Bramblett and interim Fire Chief Bill Hogan. They told the firefighters they were being disciplined for going outside the chain of command and that they needed to “play ball”.
Then in the formal appeals hearing Bramblett stated the ONLY reason they were being disciplined is they were eavesdropping on a hearing. It is now known that the original meeting was taped and obviously Jim Bramblett was not aware of this. We are hopeful that the county will work to find a fair conclusion to this lawsuit.

Here is a satirical commentary on this situation
How Dare Them!
You know what those darn whistleblowers have done now? They said they are gonna file a suit against Decatur County, County Administrator Jim Bramblett, ex-fire chief Billy Griffin (don’t worry, we took care of Billy, we just transferred him to another County job) and interim fire chief Bill Hogan cause we put them guys in their place.
Don’t them guys know we don’t put up with whistleblowers here in Decatur County?
It don’t matter that the 2 firemen hired couldn’t pass the firefighters required test - well wait a minute they did pass the test. I should have said that it don’t matter they cheated so they could pass. They passed didn’t they? That’s all that counts.
So whats the big deal? We had 2 more firefighters on the payroll. There ain’t nothin to putting out a fire, you just spray water don’t you?
I mean heck, who wants some woman in the fire department. It don’t matter she is qualified for EMS and qualified as a firefighter. Let her go to work in Albany as a firefighter, we just don’t want her here.
And whats more, that big city lawyer Hatcher says he WANTS to go to court for this. Give em heck County, don’t settle this lawsuit. HA, just wait til he comes down here to OUR County. We’ll show him whats what when he gets here.
Big city lawyer Hatcher says there is some kind of law about protecting whistleblowers - well maybe up there but this is Decatur County.
Big city lawyer Hatcher thinks that our boys are wasting our money by not settling this.
Well let me tell you, if part of that settlin is you want for us to fire the 2 people that YOU SAY messed up, we ain’t gonna do it.
We stick up for our boys here.
Well fight you til the cows come home and everybody here is broke but you ain’t gonna make us do that.
