I don’t blame the Humane Society for the Attitudes..
Comment by Virginia — October 26, 2011 @ 7:11 amBravo To The 4 County Commissioners Who Voted In Support Of The Humane Society.
Comment by roger keaton — October 26, 2011 @ 7:16 amShame On The 2 Who Didn’t
Thank you to the Commissioners who voted in favor of the Humane Society and shame on you to the 2 that did not. As for the attitude of the Humane Society, pluck the plank out of your own eye before you pick the splinter out of theirs!
There are ways to handle sensitive issues, and condescending attitudes is not part of that…you are dealing with selfless, passionate people caring for living things, not someone pouring morter and laying brick. Common sense and common courtesy go a long, long way….this is a tried and true method……surprised someone in your position has never learned that…sad really. Diplomacy is a great thing. To the 2 commissioners who have behaved this way, I would love to know how many times you have visited our Humane Society…how can you pass judgement on something you basically know nothing about…all the facts and statistics in the world fall short when life is involved…even a child knows that!
Comment by kindness-matters — October 26, 2011 @ 8:32 amTheir is not enough time or space to write how i feel. but i think it is a shame how the commissioners have treated the staff at the human society. these are caring compassionate people who care deeply about animals and go way and beyond their call of duty. if you have never been their go it will break your heart i want to take every dog i see. But i know i cant.In the Bible is says “If you do it to the least of these my brethren ye have done it unto me”. I believe this included animals as well as their caretakers. When you mistreat my animals or even talk about them i take this to heart. they are as helpless as babies. They only have what we give them. But they also have unconditional love and loyalty. Please have more respect for those that work and labor long hours at the humane society. If for one dont understand how this agency always falls under budget and then all the money is spent on things like redoing parks for young criminals to mess up and deface. Wake up people.
Comment by daisy4 — October 26, 2011 @ 4:53 pmThanks to the commissioners who voted to give the financial support to the animal shelter. The county SHOULD PAY it’s fair share.
Comment by JP — October 26, 2011 @ 5:15 pmIt is about time the 2 commissioners and the staff got a taste of their own medicine. Perry complains that he did not get open records act request answers. HELLOOOOO! Everytime a citizen askes for information from the county under open records act, they send a letter requiring a huge payment before providing the info. Good Job HMS! Tell Earl and the boys when they send you a check for looking up the info you will gladly send it. What is good for the goose is good for the gander.
Comment by RC — October 27, 2011 @ 10:43 amEMS. There are just some things our county/city government must do to provide community service. If it were profitable to privatize these services some private business would be in the business. EMS personnel and the service, while unprofitable, are necessary.
I hope they continue to come to the county meetings, otherwise the sneaky commissioners and administrator will pull one over all of us.
Comment by RC — October 27, 2011 @ 10:48 amDue to recent events, I have re-thought my position and I want to THANK the 2 commissioners who voted AGAINST the Humane Society. Commissioner Perry & Commissioner Stafford – thank you, because of your short-sightedness and poor attitude towards the Humane Society, our community has really pulled together to show their support.
Without you and your negative comments, we might have never known just how much the citizens of Decatur County and the surrounding counties think of our GREAT Humane Society and it’s WONDERFUL Staff. Bravo…nice job….you and you alone have increased awareness of just how valuable this worthy organization truly is!
Comment by kindness-matters — October 27, 2011 @ 11:50 amBased on the video and comments we have a commissioner or two that seems to be slightly agitated and a little extreme. I have the perfect remedy for your problem…yes, I believe they do make medicine for that…but that won’t fix your problem, you need the love of a puppy to fix your issues…one good lick on the cheek and you would know what unconditional love is all about! Give it a try, it’s the best therapy around.
Comment by kindness-matters — October 27, 2011 @ 5:02 pmThank You Nadine Brown for speaking up for us we do a thankless job for the county. Unfortunately their isn’t many of us left that are willing to train get certifed use their gas and personal vehicle to get up all hours of the day and night and be available at a moments notice for free anymore! The county should be glad we have the fifteen to twenty dedicated individuals that do this for EMS.
I have been one of the ones since I moved here that’s been fortunate enough to be able to successfully save a life and know of the need that’s why I got into this in the first place to help my community not ask for a handout. I appreciate the working relationship and bond we all have with one another in time of crisis and truly call any of of you one of my true friends and extended family! Working with all of you has truly been a blessing may God Bless Each and Everyone of You Richly!
Comment by First Responder/Volunteer Firefighter — October 27, 2011 @ 8:02 pmIt is high time that people start paying real close attention to the actions of each and every one of the board members elected by “we the people” and what their “TRUE” agenda really is. Are they serving the interests of the “COMMUNITY” or are they catering to special interests or even fulfilling a personal agenda? Actions speak louder than words and with the current state of affairs we are living in today I do not find it an appropriate time to massage egotistical attitudes that have recently been exhibited. If as much debate and concern was shown on EACH AND EVERY issue that came before them as we have seen on select issues, there is no telling how much money and time could be saved or what could be accomplished for the betterment of all taxpayers.
I think the Humane Society does an excellent job considering the number of animals they try to save and adopt out. Perhaps a volunteer session by those who do not truly comprehend the whole operation of running a shelter would prove to be a beneficial experience when weighing all the factors required to operate the shelter and the funding needed to sustain it. The county has a responsibility to provide animal control services and there is no way to staff and operate one annualy for $40,000. The bargain is evident to me.
Thank you to the ones who voted to provide a monthly distribution. And for the others who cannot or will not appreciate the value of animals to humans, its your loss.
Comment by flying solo — October 27, 2011 @ 9:52 pmThe 2 illustrious commissioners who voted together are both Doctors of some kind or another, and they do not seem “to get it”. It is a fact that most county services…fire, police, animal control, etc, are a total waste of money…..UNTIL WE NEED THEM! These services are simply part of what we pay for in a progressive society. Otherwise we can pay for out own services like third world countries where if you want your property protected, you hire a guard.
Comment by RC — October 28, 2011 @ 10:12 amI have a stupid question to ask my city and county government officals. With the bad economy and no jobs being created ( because of the republicians), What is the need to have a new ag building built in Bainbridge when there are so many empty city and county bldgs here? Why not take some of that money and remodel some of these bldgs for that use.Why does our government continue to waste our tax dollars to just hire a certain few and not think about the people as a whole? We are not all farmers.I may not be the smartest person in the world but I do know when I’m being swindled. Just like that white elephant of a welcome center. What was the need for this bldg. in the city limits of Bainbridge? I have traveled around this country while serving in the military and I have yet to see another welcome center welcoming people into the state in the city limits of any town but Bainbridge. Most welcome centers are at the state line on interstates. We all know that this job was created especially for certain people to have a job because of favors. There, I said it, cause it had to be said sooner or later since no one else would say it.Have a good day!
Comment by c gordon — November 16, 2011 @ 9:42 amI would like to say that I applaud this concerned citzen for her letter about one of the department heads here in Bainbridge. She is only saying what a lot of us already know but chose not to say. There are a lot of these people holding positions here in Bainbridge but because of the “good ole boy system” these people continue to hold on to these jobs. They talk to the people they are there to serve any kind of way and treat them any kind of way because for one ignorance and two they have done it for so long it’s just the way people think it should be. I applaud you for your courage to step forward and bring this person to everybody’s attention. Now, get ready because you’ll be labeled a disgruntled employee because you have exposed this person by the city and the county. Please stick to your guns and don’t allow these people to bully you and hopefully there will be more of this brought to the forefront. Hopefully in the coming future we can get ride of some of this dead weight and hire some people that know how to deal with people on a professional level.
