Dews Supports Library and Ga. Literary Festival

Multi-talented former Atlanta Braves baseball player and bullpen coach Bobby Dews came to Bainbridge College this semester to donate copies of his book Legends, Demons and Dreams.

The two copies are for the Bainbridge College (BC) libraries on Main Campus and the Early County Site in Blakely.

“The book, published in 2004, is his second book and is a collection of short stories written with a Southern perspective about life and death,” said Library Director Susan Ralph. “His novel Largo was published in 1986.” 

Dews, writer-in-residence at Andrew College in Cuthbert, is one of approximately 24 Georgia authors who will participate in the 2008 Georgia Literary Festival. The festival will be at Bainbridge College Oct. 25 and will be open to the public free of charge. It is co-sponsored by the Decatur County-Gilbert H. Gragg Library Foundation, the Bainbridge College Foundation, the Georgia Center for the Book, and the Georgia Humanities Council. 

When not writing, Dews serves in an advisory role as Atlanta Braves coach at home games and during Spring Training. He has been with the Atlanta Braves organization since 1974. 

A native of Clinton, Iowa, Dews graduated from Edison High School in Edison, GA. He was a standout basketball and baseball player at Georgia Tech and earned a degree in English in 1968 from West Georgia College.
