Hello, Bowlers!
Can you believe the Summer is nearly gone already? School has started back, summer leagues are ending and Fall Leagues are just around the corner.
With the economy in the shape its in, and Gas Prices going ballistic, you might want to think about joining one of our leagues. Its close to home, economically affordable, it gets you off the couch, and its FUN!
Here's some stuff I bet you didn't know about Bowling!
1. The average bowler burns 240 Calories per hour.
2. 3 games of bowling equals 1 mile of walking.
3. The average bowler swings 864 lbs. full circle in 3 games.
4. Bowling is a weight bearing sport, which helps build strong bones.
5. Over 10 million children 12 and under celebrate their birthdays in a Bowling Center annually.
6. Bowling is a life-time sport. I started bowling in 1967 in Gadsden, Alabama. I bowled there for 15 years. I moved to Jacksonville, Florida in 1983 and bowled in that city for over 12 years. I moved to Hudson Florida in 2001 and bowled there for three years.
I can go back to each of these cities today, walk into Paradise Lanes in Gadsden on Wednesday night after all these years and see a house full of my friends. I can compete in a tournament just about anywhere in the south and will see someone I know. Its great! So, don't tell me you don't have time, its your life, make time. Don't tell me I don't know how, I'll Teach you.
Make excuses to have a good time, you work hard, play hard. Some people say they don't want to be committed for so many weeks. I say "This is MY TIME, on Monday Night (of whichever night) from 6:30 to 9:30, don't bother me. You've got me six other days of the week, this time is MINE." And guess what! Its yours for 32 weeks.
Maybe you can tell I'm a little passionate about what I do. If you take the time to try it, bring some friends with you, I can promise you its tons more fun than going to the movies. Whats more, you can eat and work off the calories at the same time. Try that in a movie theater.
Now let's talk bowling scores.
In the 8 game marathon, Wayne Jordan walked away with top honors. In the Monthly No-Tap, Will Proctor won his first one.
Leagues are in their last couple of weeks so the pressure is mounting..
Monday Night Mixed is led by "Sleven", who has a substantial lead over "Haire Bears", but every other spot is up for grabs. The high scores this time around are, 279 by Alan Giles, 266 by Roger Haire and 237 by Glenn Rykard. The ladies are led by Evelyn Hughes with a nice 218 game, followed by Phyllis Collinswith a 209. As far as series go, Alan Giles has a 751, and Evelyn leads the ladies with a 566 set.
The No-Tap Adult-Youth league is still being headed up by Nancy Gray's "Dixie Gils". They are 17 points in front of "F.R.O.G.". Remember, in this league nine pins or more knocked down on the first ball counts as a strike. So, if I write about a 300 being shot in this league, don't get too excited, it will contain no-tap strikes. The high game for the men this time is 275 by Roger Haire. The high game for the ladies is 264 by our very own Nancy Gray. The best game for the girls is 219 by Amanda Rykard. Will Chason rolled a 277 for the boys.
Thursday Masters has "Click-Click-Boom" leading by 6 points over "The 4 B's". The best games this time are 279, rolled by me and David Beck, 269, by Fred Stanley and 264, by Bret Del Santo. The series belongs to David Beck, with a respectable 783 set. Michelle Kendrick had a 262 games. The best series belongs to Michelle, 697.
Next time I will give you a detailed list of new and existing leagues now forming. Be thinking about who you would like to bowl with, and which night would most suit your needs (we have one every night except Saturday and Sunday). I do want to mention a new daytime league we are starting. It's called the "Twisted Employee League". Anyone who can be here at 1:00 pm on Wednesdays (Starting Sept. 24) is eligible. We have a few staffers who will bowl, but mostly it will consist of you bowlers (yes, Mable, I'm talking about you and Edna and Willie and all the rest of our seniors who bowl with us every week).
Lots to say, so little time!
Until, next time, Keep On Bowling!
