Lots of stuff to cover this time, so let’s get to it. Many thanks to James Butler and his friends for making our Bowling Exhibition a success. For those of you who attended, thank you. For those of you who missed it, better luck next year. James signed autographs, talked to the people one on one, and of course, bowled (and not too badly, either).
The Deepsouth Youth Traveling Tournament was held at Jac’s Lanes last month, and our bowlers walked away with first place. Amanda Rykard won the Girls Division and Michael Evans won the Boys. Rose Bowl sent bowlers to the tournament for the first time. So, our little tournament is growing. This Sunday, July 20, at 2:00 pm, Langston-Gray Bowling Center will be the host. If you want to see some of the best youth bowlers in central-south Georgia, come on out and cheer them on.
This is the time of year when the Georgia Games are held in Atlanta, and the area youth bowlers vie for medals. The youth bowling division is broken up in to divisions (101 to 124, 125-149, ect.). All youth bowlers state-wide compete on Saturday, with the top 10 in each division advancing to the Sunday rounds. They bowl again and cut to the top 5, then the top five bowl for Gold, Silver and Bronze medals. Two of our bowlers made it to the top 10, Niklas Isler and Michael Evans, and Niklas ended up in fifth place in the 101-124 division. Michael ended up 10 in his division (125-149).
Derick Proulx shot his first 300 game last week. You may remember him from last year when he shot , not one, but two 299 games in the same night. This time he got the 10 pin to fall with a wicked strike ball. Actually, this was his eighth career 300. Oh, by the way, did I mention he was bowling against me? We lost.
Last Sunday, Al Brown beat out Kyle Medley for first place honore in the Monthly No-Tap Tournament. We had twenty-four entries.
OK, lets see who’s making the bowling news this time.
Monday Night Mixed is led by “Sleven”, who has a 12 point lead over “Haire Bears”. The big games this time are, 278 by Glenn Rykard, 258 by Alan Giles and 256 by Kyle Medley. The ladies are led by Evelyn Hughes with a mighty 212 game, followed by Millie Cross with a 198. Mary Rykard and Dot McQuaig each rolled a 191As far as series go, Alan Giles has a 737, Glenn Rykard had a 687 series. Evelyn leads the ladies with a 576 set.
The No-Tap Adult-Youth league is being headed up by Nancy Gray’s “Dixie Gils”. They are9 points in front of “Halo”. Remember, in this league nine pins or more knocked down on the first ball counts as a strike. So, if I write about a 300 being shot in this league, don’t get too excited, it will contain no-tap strikes. The high game for the boys this time is 300 by Kendrick Williams. The best game for the girls is 216 by Amanda Rykard. Roger Haire rolled a 286 for the men and Nancy Gray shot a 220.
Thursday Masters has “Click-Click-Boom” leading by 14 points over Team #1. The best games this time are 300, rolled by Derick Proulx, 278, by Les Garringer and 267, by Alan Giles. The series belongs to Derick Proulx, with a respectable 756 set. Michelle Kendrick and Gina Bollotta each had 235 games. The best series belongs to Michelle, 629.
The Fall Season line-up is out and available at the center. All returning bowlers please varify your teams with us and any of you new bowlers, you are more than welcome to join our family of leaguers. In fact, we want you so badly to join us that we are offering professional bowling instructions on Wednesday nights during “Weird Wednesdays”.throughout the summer.
I know I’ve forgotten something or someone, but remind me and I’ll catch it next time.
Until, then, Keep On Bowling!
