Twenty-one year old Ebony Clarke was killed by a gunshot Monday night about 7 pm. We understand Ebony was an innocent bystander to a continuing fight.
GBI agent Mike Walsingham was on scene immediately and their crime scene unit was called in to process the scene. With the homicide case under investigation, there was little information released Monday night.
Residents told us that the Hallmon brothers had a "disagreement" with Phillip Anderson and Adam Hancock. That resulted in a call to 911 on Monday evening.
The video is scenes from the homicide along with a local resident relating what others are saying "on the street". Our understanding of the events follows.
About 6:45 pm, Public Safety responded to a fight with guns in the 1100 block of Broughton Street. Officers found Terrence Hallmon in his front yard beaten unconscious with brass knuckles. EMS responded but he refused medical treatment.
A few minutes later, gunshots rang out. At the sound of shots, Public Safety Officers and Sheriff's Deputy Nick Godwin, who had responded to the first call, ran towards the 1000 block of Broughton. Deputy Godwin spotted a man being carried from the yard adjacent to Broughton Street.
Terrence Hallmon's brother, Travis Hallmon, had been shot in his thigh. He was laid down at on the corner where EMS treated him and transported him to the hospital.
Moments later, shouts of "They done shot a girl" rang out and officers and the crowd took off to the inside area and to an apartment. Ebony Clarke had been shot in the head as she stood in the grass area beside the street. Somehow she got back to her apartment where she was found.
As kids rode their bicycles, EMS and an emergency doctor responded. She was treated with heroic measures at the scene and on the way to the hospital to no avail. At the hospital, assistant Coroner Kenny Hollis pronounced 21 year old Ebony Clarke dead.
Public Safety Officers taped off the crime scene and began the search for evidence. In the yard area, they found droplets of blood that led in the direction of Ebony's apartment. They marked them for the GBI crime scene technicians to process later.
After Ebony was transported to the hospital, in the middle of it all, a fight in progress was reported in the hospital parking lot.
As of 1 am, GBI and Public Safety Investigators were continuing to collect statements from the many witnesses in the area. If anyone witnessed the event, please contact Public Safety Investigators at 229-248-2038.
