August 25
Public Safety Officer Pat Bryant a gray and white pitbull walking across Avenue B. The dog was very under weight and called animal control to pick him up. THE DOG went into the yard at 1206 Avenue C and laid down. Officer Bryant recalled handling a cruelty to animals there in June when he observed 3 pitbulls in good health but needing water in the pens.
Cpl. Boyett arrived and took photographs of the first dog. The officers and Animal Control Officer Albert Williams checked the back of the residence and found a second dog in a pen with no water or food. The second dog was as neglected as the first and Cpl. Boyett took more photographs. Officer Bryant asked Matt Burke when was the last time he fed the dogs and he stated he "didn't know, two or three days ago". Officer Bryant arrested Matt Burke for Cruelty to Animals.
August 19
Sgt. Marvin Knight responded to the emergency room in reference to an assault. James Stevens reported that he was headed north on Miller Avenue when he was approached from behind by a black male known as Skinny Willie. He said that Skinny Willie yelled why do you keep fxxxxxx with my niece. Stevens stated Skinny Willie then hit him over the head with a beer bottle and ran into the house. Stevens called his Mom to take him to the hospital.
Willie Hudson, Skinny Willie, told Officer Knight that he was sitting on his porch when Stevens and four other known gang members approached him. Skinny Willie reported Stevens asked him about joining a gang called goon mafia. Skinny Willie stated that he told Stevens to get off their property but Stevens came back later and parked in their yard. Skinny Willie said Stevens and the same 4 males got out of the vehicle. He reported that Stevens told him that you might as well get ready to fight and made gestures that he had a gun. Skinny Willie said he then threw a beer bottle at Stevens and ran into the house. A neighbor verified the events to the officer. Sgt. Knight ordered Stevens to stay off of Skinny Willie's property.
August 25
Sheriff's Sgt Steve Singleton responded to the Decatur County Landfill in reference to theft. The complainant stated that he witnessed Joseph J. McDonald, a former inmate of DCCI and a white female leave the landfill in a white Mercury Mountaineer pulling a trailer. On the trailer was a large amount of copper wire in a 55 gallon drum and two large plastic trash cans full of copper wire in the rear of the Mountaineer. He stated McDonald worked under him when he was an inmate.
The tag came back registered to Clinton Leroy Schroll of Burnt Leaf Lane in Tallahassee. The complainant said he questioned McDonald about the copper and he became hostile and left the scene. Another supervisor reported that 3 inmates, Jimmie Alexander Johnson, Dexter Maurice Holloman and Leroy Thomas Beckwith helped load the copper wire into a 55 gallon drum and the 2 plastic trash cans and load them on the vehicle. The case was turned over to Sheriff's Investigator Julian Crowder.
August 21
At about 5 pm, a stabbing was reported in the parking lot of Hutto McIver Apartments at 851 MLK Jr Dr.
Public Safety Cpl. Brian Boyett responded and found Steve Zeigler stabbed a couple of times in the stomach area. He told the officer a white male rode up on a bike, stabbed him and then left. He said he did not want anything done and left in the ambulance for the hospital.
Several people in the area told Cpl. Boyett they saw nothing. A caller then reported to 911 that a black male in the parking lot wearing an orange Miami shirt with his hand wrapped up did the stabbing. Officer Pat Bryant found and arrested James Cooper. Investigator Esquivel interviewed James Cooper and he admitted stabbing Steve Zeigler but after he was slapped. He stated that Steve was talking nasty around his 8 year old daughter. He said he told Steve to watch his mouth and that is when he slapped him. James Cooper then stabbed Steve with a knife. Steve Zeigler stated that he did not want to press charges. James Cooper was charged with disorderly conduct.
August 18
At about 10 pm, a clerk at a local liquor store reported a customer had slapped her. She reported to Officer Kenneth Ellison that a male had come in and asked for cigarillos. When asked for an ID he smarted off and jerked the money back out of her hand. He then slapped her on her wrist.
Investigator James Dollar discovered 3 juveniles fitting the description behind Bob's Package Store. The juvenile was identified by the clerk and arrested for assault.
When Investigator Dollar first arrived, he spotted Rayvon Moten trying to hide behind the building and then appear to dispose of something. In a search of the area, after the assault arrest, Captain Robert Humphrey found 4 plastic bags containing marijuana inside a privacy fence to the building.
August 3
Deputy Efrain Beltran responded to a call at Cooper Air and Heat, was dispatched to 402 Whigham Dairy road in reference to an employee theft. Upon my arrival, Tony Cooper reported that his secretary, Sherriedan Kelly, had embezzled approximately $225 from his business. The case was turned over to Investigator Julian Crowder.
August 17
Public Safety Officer Jason Barlow responded to the storage units on 218 Scott Street about 9am. The complainant reported he arrived to find the area strewn with articles from a number of storage units. Officers found 22 storage units open with their locks cut off and the customer's personal items setting open. Cpl Boyett discovered a hole had been cut in the north side fence. Case was turned over to Investigator Chris Jordan.
August 14
At about 1:45 am Sheriff's Sgt. Nick Godwin responded to Pondtown Road approximately 1/2 mile north of the city limits of bainbridge in reference to damage to vehicle. The victim told the deputy that she had run out of gas and left to get some. She stated some friends drove her down Lake Drive and before they even got to Bethel Road, she realized her money was in the car.
They returned to her 2001 Taurus and found the car smashed. All the windows were broken with what appeared to be a baseball bat or something similar. All the tires were slashed, one door was beaten in and damage to the body of the car in many more areas. She stated she was not gone more than about 10 minutes. Sheriff's Investigator Terry Phillips is handling the case.
August 9
Sgt Marvin Knight responded to Water Street and Cheever Street in reference to an assault. The 34 year old victim told him that he and a friend was walking on Water Street and a male approached him asking where are you going.
He told the officer that 4 or 5 males started to punched and kicked them in the face and head. He reported they were held down while their pockets were searched and their wallets taken. The 2 suffered visible bruises to the face and head and one had a 3" laceration to his head. The robbers were not found.
August 5
Public Safety Officer Kenneth Ellison responded to the Farm Supply on Tallahassee Hwy and was told that 3 juveniles had been playing on the 4 wheelers. The 3 took off from inside the store with 3 sets of keys. A manager ran them behind the store area and lost them.
A few minutes later, Officer Ellison responded to an alarm at John Johnson School. On arrival he spotted 2 juveniles inside the school and upon seeing him, they took off running. Officer Ellison caught them behind the school. The juveniles, in the range of 11 years old, fit the description of the ones that took the keys. Officer Ellison asked for the keys back and received 1 set. The other 2 sets had been thrown, and were recovered and returned to the store. They were taken to Public Safety and released to their mothers.
August 1
Sheriff's Deputy Humberto Dean responded to Williamson Auto on Zorn Road in reference to a burglary. The complainant stated that someone broke into his store and stole 2 Jensen 300 watt amps, 1 JVC 300 watt amp, four 12 inch woofers, JVC 6x9 speakers, 2 batteries and a bug deflector to fit a Dodge truck. He identified one customer that had come to his shop a few days before looking at the electronics, alone. The thief had entered the office through an unlocked window.
It was ascertained the suspects may be homeless and Deputy Dean located the 2 suspects sleeping in their truck in Cheney Griffin Park. Deputy Dean ran both through E911 and Hand was placed under arrest for Deposit Account Fraud warrants. Investigator Strickland is continuing the investigation.
August 5
At about 3:45 pm, Officer Collin Hastey responded to shoplifters at Wal-Mart. The 2 females had been viewed at the self-checkout scanning a few items but placing a large number of items in their cart. Shalonda James was arrested along with her 15 year old daughter. The 35 year old Ms James was also charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
August 1
Don't Mess with a Nurse
Last Friday evening a nurse at the hospital reported to Public Safety Sgt Jon Harrison that she had been assaulted. The nurse told the Sgt that she was in a room with a patient when Lawrence Aikens came into the room and sat down. She finished tending to her patient and tried to pass by in front of Mr Aikens. After saying "excuse me" several times, without him moving, she attempted to pass by him. When she did, Mr. Aikens rubbed his hands across her buttock area. 23 year old Lawrence Aikens was arrested for sexual battery.
July 18
The Captain D's manager reported to Officer Brian Boyett several cash thefts from the store. She told the officer that one of her assistant managers, Janis Gardner, stole money from the night deposit. She stated that in the previous week, she had entered deposits that did not match the receipts recorded. She reported that 2 deposits were shorted $485. The manager stated that when asked, 31 year old Janis Gardner knew nothing about it. She was terminated.
August 1
Public Safety investigators arrested 2 individuals after a tip from a local citizen. Chief Investigator Frank Green received a call Friday afternoon around 5 pm. The caller stated that Jubal Bryan and a long haired white male were in a green Toyota Camry buying crack cocaine behind Hutto McIver Homes.
Investigators found them at the car wash on Calhoun Street. Investigators Green and James Dollar walked up to the car and asked the 2 to get out. Jubal Bryan and Luis Morales got out and also consented to a search of the car.
Investigators found crack pipes in a bag and hidden under a floor mat. Investigator Esquivel instructed Morales to open his mouth and then he was told to "Spit It Out". Rather than spit out the crack cocaine, he swallowed it.
Jubal Bryan and Luis Morales were arrested for possession of drug related objects plus Luis Morales for tampering with evidence. Jubal Bryan was on probation and Luis Morales was on parole.
