July 30
At about midnight, a mother reported that her 15 year old son was having sex with a 29 year old woman. She reported a letter was found where he had written to the woman and when she questioned him, she stated he admitted it. In addition, she reported the woman's stepfather had come to see her the previous Saturday and told her he thought something was going on between the 2.
When Officer Gary Hines arrived, the juvenile had left walking. When the 15 year old was found and questioned, he told Public Safety the letter was "to an imaginary friend".
July 26
At about 9:30 am Public Safety Officer John Mills responded to Hubert Dollar Dr. In reference to a domestic problem. The complainant pointed to a silver and orange Monte Carlo driving away and said the offender, Timothy Tarver, had her child with him in the car and also had a gun.
Captain Robert Humphrey attempted to stop the vehicle on Shotwell Street with lights and siren but he continued on. Officers followed him as he turned onto West Street Officer Mills was able to get in front of him, and along with Captain Humphrey and Cpl Nigel Hurst, performed a rolling road block, totally blocking him in.
Stopping him, they approached the car with guns drawn and instructed him to exit the vehicle. He did and was handcuffed saying "I was just going to my mother's house." The child was removed from the passenger side and a 22 caliber revolver was found under the driver's front seat. Captain Humphrey also discovered a from the drivers door panel a small bag of marijuana.
Back at the apartment, significant damage was found. A tire to her vehicle was found cut, fuses removed so the vehicle would not start, cushions on the couch, loveseat and chair had been cut, holes in the wall, shelves pulled down, chairs broken and her work cell phone was found in the holding pond.
The complainant stated they had been separated for about 3 months and he showed up to visit his son. She came out of the shower to find him standing in her apartment. After he insisted on using her bathroom, she told him that she had company. She left the apartment and called 911. When she returned, she discovered all the damage. 29 year old Timothy Tarver was charged with possession of marijuana and obstruction.
July 25
Public Safety Officer Brett Trammell responded to Zaxbys in reference to an employee theft. Officer Trammell viewed the store video. He reported the video showed Felicia Washington using an employee discount card to take money.
In the video, he witnessed Felicia Washington take cash from a customer at the drive thru and place it beside the cash register. Washington then used a calculator to get the correct amount of change. She then got the change from her own pocket and gave the food and change to the customer. The money beside the register was then put in her pocket. Washington never opened the cash register during the transaction.
The total reported taken July 22 and 23 was $455. The restaurant advised the investigator that they did not want to prosecute at this time.
July 17
A truck parked at Stones Landing Park while the owner went fishing was reported damaged. The owner reported that he returned at about 2 pm and found that the catalytic converter had been cut from the truck. Sgt Greg McMillan also discovered the gas line had been cut and the gas drained from the vehicle.
July 16-20
A resident on Anderson Street reported her car was damaged by someone painting gang words and symbols on the driver side door and hood. A florescent orange paint was used and 2 partially used cans were found nearby. She reported this occurred sometime between July 16 and 20. In addition, someone broke into her storage shed and a TV was removed and placed on the ground.
The gang symbols and paint matched the same markings that were painted on a College Street house that was also reported damaged during the same time period.
July 17
About 11:15 pm Officer Gary Hines spotted a yellow pickup truck weaving in and out of lanes and all over the roadway. After a sharp turn onto Scott without a turn signal, he stopped him. The truck had a suspended registration and the officer spoke with the driver. James Benton said he did not have his license with him and there was a strong odor of alcohol. When Mr Benton got out, he fell backwards against the door.
When told he was under arrest for DUI, he began to cuss and struggle while handcuffs were being placed on him. He then had some very "unkind" word for Officer Hines including that next time he stopped him he would kill him.
24 year old James Turner Benton Jr, of Fleming Dr was charged with failure to maintain lane, failure to use turn signal, driving while tag is suspended, driving w/0 license on person, disorderly conduct, no insurance and DUI. Sometimes not being nice can hurt.
July 16-17
About 5 pm, a resident arrived home to find her MLK Jr Drive home had been burglarized. She reported to Officer Kenneth Ellison that someone had removed an air conditioner and entered her home. Items taken were 2 TVs, 2 microwaves and the A/C.
The next evening about 10:15, apparently the thief wanted another air conditioner. Officer Gary Hines responded to the same residence regarding a burglary in progress. On his way, he passed a walking Issac Jerriard Johnson.
The resident reported she was sitting on a porch close by and yelled at the burglar. He took off running,wearing sweat pants and a white shirt. The air conditioner was found in the yard of an abandoned house. A few minutes later Cpl. Craig Carr stopped Issac Johnson walking south on Boulevard. In his hand was a white shirt he attempted to hide by dropping it on the ground. After a few questions he was released.
The resident also reported that on the previous night, Issac Jerriard Johnson was seen pushing a shopping cart. Cpl Carr then found an abandoned cart setting beside Boulevard. Of course a shopping cart is not unusual, but in this cart was a tire iron, that could easily be used to gain entry into a home. It was taken into evidence and Investigator Alton Brock was notified.
July 13
About 6 pm, Deputy Nick Godwin responded to Dean Road in reference to a domestic. He arrived to find a pickup under the side of a mobile home and the group arguing about the incident. One side stated they were there to help the wife move out. They stated the husband pulled into the driveway and "floored it" attempting to run down a person helping. They told the deputy he missed and hit his own trailer.
The husband stated that he was called by his soon-to-be ex-wife and asked to come and help sort property. He stated that when he arrived he did hit the gas but was not trying to hit anyone. He stated he "slammed on the brakes" but his truck slid because of the wet grass and he hit his home.
The next evening, several trespass warnings were needed and given to individuals from both sides along with instructions not to contact the other.
July 16
At about 8 pm Deputy Ed Moorhead made a stop on Highway 84 east. He asked Thomas William Lairsey for permission to search his vehicle, which Lairsey gave. As Sgt Moorhead went to his car for gloves. Cpl Michael Logue watched Mr Lairsey get an open pack of cigarettes from the car. Cpl Logue checked the pack and discovered a small bag of cocaine. He said it was the passenger's pack, Denoris Randall Wright.
In a search of Mr Wright, Deputies found a small bag of cocaine along with a straw. A bag of marijuana was also discovered. 33 year old Thomas William Lairsey Jr. of Whigham was charged with possession of cocaine and 46 year old Denorris Randall Wright of Climax was charged with possession of cocaine and marijuana.
July 15
It appears someone did not like having their dog picked up in Bainbridge on Monday night. Bainbridge Animal Control Officer Albert Williams had picked up a brown and white pit bull and taken him to the Shelter. On Tuesday morning, Humane Society employees found their front door forced open and the pit bull gone from the outside pen.
July 13
Deputy Steve Black responded to the area of Wright's Trailer Park in reference to illegal burning. Deputy Black had previously received a complaint that the body shop owner on Sunset Drive was burning antifreeze bottles, oil cans and other hazardous materials. Deputy Black unsuccessfully kept an eye on the area for several weeks.
From a complaint on Sunday about 10 pm, Deputy Black found smoke rising from behind the fence line at Wright's Trailer Park. Deputies Black and Trolinger found a male in a garage at 133 Sunset Drive and asked him to come speak with him. He began to walk behind the house and then took off running. Deputy Black pursued but was stopped by a large barking dog. The male was identified as Garfield Chisholm a.k.a. Jewronbis Davis and charges are now pending for illegal dumping/burning of illegal materials and obstruction.
July 12
At about 5 am, Public Safety Officer Gary Hines responded to a call on Spruce Street where one subject had a knife and threatning the owner. The complainant reported to the officer that he was sitting on his porch enjoying his cigar and cup of coffee. He stated a black male with a mask on his face appeared with a large knife and demanded that he give up his wallet. He told the offender that he had to go and get the wallet out of the house. He came back out of the house with his pistol in hand and the offender took off running north on Lamar Street.
July 11
Around 11 pm, Public Safety Captain Fred Black and Officer Collin Hastey responded to Red Barn Trailer Park in reference to a domestic dispute. Evidently Dan had complained about the kind of hot dogs Sarah had bought. Sarah became very upset and loud towards Dan. The officers were able to calm them down and left.
Then at about 1 am, Officer Hastey again responded to the residence. Now the dispute was over some teddy bears. Sarah stated that Dan would not give her back her bears. Sarah was being loud and boisterous toward Dan and they were warned they were distubing the neighbors. Dan quieted down but Sarah continued to be loud and disorderly. After another warning, and she just would not stop, Sarah was arrested for disorderly conduct and transported to jail.
The bears were allowed to remain in Dan's custody for the night.
July 11
At about 11:30 pm, Public Safety Officer Gary Hines was flagged down by a female and said she needed the police. She claimed that her boyfriend had choked her and pushed her to the ground on Gee Street. She went on to say that he then snatched her money and took off walking down Faceville Highway.
Officer Hines found the boyfriend on Faceville Highway. He told the officer that his girlfriend only wanted his money. He stated that when he did not give her any money, she slapped him upside his head. He said that he left before there was any more trouble.
July 10
On June 24 Officer Collin Hastey received a report from a 22 year old female from Reynoldsville that someone took two prescription bottles from her vehicle and refilled one of the prescriptions at Wal-Mart. She ascertained that one of the prescriptions was refilled on June 16 and picked up on June 17.
Wal-Mart pharmacy told her the person confirmed her address (it was on the bottle) but could not provide her date of birth. She asked that this be investigated to identify the person and that she will press charges. Investigator James Dollar was able to view the video and identified Shannon Spooner picking up the prescription. On July 10, 37 year old Shannon Spooner was arrested for acquiring controlled substance by fraud.
July 9
Officer Anthony Stubbs responded to 603 South West Street in reference to a robbery. Jimmy Hearns stated that he standing outside his residence when a black male approximately 5'5" wearing a white dirty galls t-shirt and blue jeans walked up to him. He asked for a $1 so he could get something to eat. Hearns stated that when he took out his money, the male snatched $65 from his hands and ran south. Hearns stated that he chased him for a short time but was unable to catch him.
July 6
Sgt. Jon Harrison responded to Hatcher Road to a dog bitting a female. The 21 year old female stated a brown and white dog chased her while she was riding her bicycle. The dog then bit her on her leg.
Sgt. Harrison advised the owner, Shannon Arney, that the dog was required to have a leash and tags on the collar. Sgt. Harrison then placed him under arrest for city ordinance leash law and dog tag requirement and transported him to public safety.
July 1
I guess you really need to be a heartless thief to attempt to steal an air conditioner from an occupied home.
On July 1, a Japonica Drive resident awoke to her usual 5:30 am alarm. She laid her head back down for a couple of minutes when all of a sudden she hears someone tugging on her air conditioner. She jumped up and yelled for her son and they ran out the front door. They found the air conditioner laying on the ground against her house. Public Safety officers searched the area with no success.
On the previous day the owner of the house just a few doors away, reported a burglary. Parts of the AC from both the inside and outside the home had been taken. The evaporator core had been removed along with the copper tubing.
June 28
Marquita Washington likes a weekend out sometimes... so she just drops her kids off at her mother's residence. On this Saturday evening, Public Safety Sgt Jack Bunting was called. The problem is that Marquita's mother is in a wheelchair and perhaps has had a stroke.
She has told Marquita over and over she could not handle the kids, but, oh well, she needs her weekend right? 25 year old Marquita had her first child when she was 16, her second when she was 19 and her 3rd child when she was 22.
One of her children told the officer that his mother drops he and his sisters off every weekend and he wants to spend some time with her. She just does not love us he told the officer. He said he did not know where she was nor when she was returning.
Sgt Bunting could not locate the mother and called DEFACs. One child went to his father's house and 2 children went to another residence to be cared for. Marquita has been warned about leaving the children several times before by Officer Bunting and DEFACs.
