By
Jul 1, 2009, 00:30

Georgia Department of Labor has reported May's Decatur County unemployment jumped .7% to 11.5% from April's revised 10.8%.  The GDOL has also reported the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate jumped to 9.7% in May, the highest rate ever recorded in Georgia.

Southwest Georgia's unemployment rate rose to 9.1% from April's revised rate of 8.6%.  In our surrounding counties, Baker County jumped 2.7%, Mitchell County .9% while Thomas and Grady Counties jumped .6%.

April's unemployment showed a significant improvement across many counties but May's numbers seemed to indicate April was only an aberration.
