June 25
Public Safety Officer Archie Mills responded to a disturbance at the boat basin playground about 7:30 pm. Ms. Natasha Bell told him that Kentwan Jones jumped up on her car and kicked the front windshield in. Kentwan Jones then limped over to Officer Mills and asked for EMS. He reported that Ms Bell had struck him twice with her car.
Mr. Jones stated he was in the playground area with his girlfriend and her child and saw Ms Bell first drive by. He said the car returned and 3 females got out, walked over to him and said something. An argument ensued and Natasha Bell pulled down her pants and told him to "kiss her xxx", turned around and said something similar in nature before pulling her pants back up.
Mr. Jones stated Ms Bell then jumped in the car and ran him down causing him to hit the windshield. He said he fell off and was walking away when she sped up and struck him again. The vehicle then proceeded to stop close by.
One of the 3 females stated Mr Jones said something about her dead mother and she became enraged. She said when Ms Bell jumped in the vehicle saying he was going to run him down, Mr Jones jumped on the hood and began kicking the windshield. The vehicle's front windshield had three distinct damage points on it along with shoe prints, but no shoe prints in the middle of the hood. There was distinct tire spinning damage to the grass in the park from Ms. Bell's vehicle.
Due to the conflicting stories and present evidence it was undetermined if Mr. Jones did kick the windshield or fell into the windshield. However, it was evident that Ms. Bell drove in a reckless manner, damaging the the grass and endangering life and other property. Ms. Bell was arrested for reckless driving and indecent exposure for her disregard for the safety of her passenger, a 2 year child in the area and other parties present at the scene.
June 22
Deputy Anthony Mims responded to a female in a pink bath robe crying and upset on the side of Old Pelham Road. The complainant stated that her boyfriend, Lee Watts, hit her in the eye. She stated Mr Watts walked in the house and she asked where he had been and why he was not answering his phone. She followed him to the bedroom and asked the same question again and Lee Watts turned around and hit her in the eye. She left the house and walked down the road.
Deputy Mims saw the victim's eye was purple and swollen and went to talk with Lee Watts. Watts stated that if Deputy Mims wanted to know what happened then ask her. Watts told the deputy that if he was going to take him to jail, then take him on. He did.
Deputy Mims arrested 33 year old Lee Watts for battery - family violence. But, on 6/24/2008, the 42 year old victim went to the Sheriffs Office and signed a waiver of prosecution.
June 11
Officer Brian Boyett responded TO 851 MLK Jr Drive regarding a domestic situation. The mother of a juvenile's girlfriend stated they had been having problems and now it has become physical. The mother had been called to come home because the juvenile was there and found him asleep on her sofa. The juvenile told the mother he was missing a cell phone. Not found, he was told to leave her apartment.
Officer Boyett attempted to find the phone going back and forth between the 2 but could not. The officer told the juvenile that the mother stated he was not allowed back at the girlfriend's apartment. officer Boyett went back to speak to the mother and who shows up but the juvenile. The juvenile threw his hands up and yelled something towards the apartment. The officer told him several times to leave the property or go to jail.
The juvenile told the officer you can't do anything to me. When Officer Boyett pulled out his handcuffs and approached him, the juvenile ran around a car. He was laughing at the officer and telling him to "Come and get me."
Another officer told the juvenile he wanted to speak with him, arrested him and charged him with disorderly conduct. The juvenile was also banned from the housing authority property.
June 13
Officer Gary Hines responded to a domestic call on East Broughton Street. The offender, Randy Cox, told the officer that he was across the street and heard his baby's mama talking about him. He said she said "That bxxxx can't do nothing for me".
His Baby's Mama is 6 months pregnant with their 2nd child.
Randy told Officer Hines that he went across the street and grabbed her by the neck and told her to go change her clothes. After arguing, Randy said he got a BB gun and swung it at her. The Baby's Mama told the officer that he got the BB gun and pointed it at her. She said he then struck her in the stomach twice and she got sick. Witnesses also stated he had punched her twice in the stomach. EMS transported her to the hospital and Randy Cox was booked for Battery.
June 12
Cpl Marvin Knight responded to E. Water Street for an assault. Two witnesses told him they witnessed their friend's ex-boyfriend enter the apartment and begin to argue with her. The girl told Bacari Wilson to leave her along and she no longer has a relationship. Wilson grabbed her around her neck and choked her against the wall. The friend tried to interceed and the girl ran outside.
The friend stated that Wilson ran behind her grabbing her by her hair until she could not run. Bacari Wilson then slammed her to the ground and tried to punch her. There were several scratches around her neck and ear area and she had a 1 inch x 3 inch patch of hair missing. It was stated that Wilson had been warned to stay away from his ex-girlfriend.
Officers were not able to locate Bacari Wilson.
June 11
About 3 am Deputy Anthony Mims responded to a domestic situation at 111 Oak Street and found blood pouring from a woman's arm. She told the deputy that she awoke to find her husband, Leon Grimsley, arguing and cursing at her. She stated she went back to sleep until she her a shotgun being loaded. He then jerked the covers back and aimed the shotgun at her. Leon told her "I have caught you cheating and I am going to kill you and then kill myself". He then struck her with the shotgun on her arm causing the injury. She got away and ran to the neighbors.
While the Deputy was speaking with her, Leon pulled up in an SUV yelling "I caught her cheating and I told her I was going to beat her". After Deputies spoke to witnesses, 59 year old Leon Collins Grimsley was arrested for Aggravated Assault-Family Violence.
June 10
While being arrested, 20 year old Starlisha Wilson told officers that people would not get out of her way so she hit the other vehicle. Starlisha was attempting to leave the Palmer Motel on Tallahassee Hwy when she struck Willie Freeman's vehicle that was parked. She then left in her green Chevrolet Blazer. Sheriff's Deputy Steve Black responded and then made contact with Public Safety. Officers found the Blazer at 600 N. Lamar Street. Ms Wilson had no insurance, suspended registration and was driving on a limited permit. She was arrested and transported to the Decatur County Jail.
June 10
A resident on Old Whigham Road reported $3,000 worth of items taken from his home. Included was a 50" Plasma TV, a Playstation Game console with a number of games, a belt sander and a crdless drill. He listed several people he suspected for Deputy Steve Balck.
June 9
At 11 pm Monday, James Stevens of Climax reported that at about 7:30 pm, he was attacked by 8 unknown haitian males while at a store on Dothan Rd. He stated he was at a vending machine when a bus pulled in. He stated a haitian male got off the bus and said something to him he did not understand, so he ignored him. He stated the male then shoved him and Mr Stevens swung back. He said about 7 or 8 others then attacked him and he suffered abrasions to his face and elbows.
June 9
A reckless driver that was involved in a Grady County accident was reported on Monday. The Kia had a damaged driver's door and Deputy Nick Godwin spotted and stopped him on Hwy 84 east. Dan Debruijn exited the car and Deputy Godwin had to tell him 3 times to get back in his vehicle. Marijuana was found in his vehicle and a roadside DUI test was positive. Mr Debruijn admitted to taking zanax, anti-depressants, hydrocodone and smoking marijuana. Dan Debruijn of Canton, Ga was charged with possession of marijuana, DUI and a hold from Grady County for leaving the scene of an accident.
June 9
A resident on Ronnie Lambert Road reported to Deputy Chad Bennett over $3,000 in building supplies taken from his property. Included were 128 12" cedar planks, 22 pieces of plywood, cement blocks, armor flex wire and 6 interior and exterior doors.
June 8
Sheriffs Deputy Anthony Mims responded to a burning 1985 Ford F-150 pickup truck at about 8 pm. A woman reported to him that she observed a slender white male wearing blue jeans and a white shirt pour what appeared to be gasoline on and around the vehicle. A blue car pulled up behind the truck the male began to take items out of the truck and put them in the car. The witness stated the male then set fire to the vehicle, jumped in the car and sped south on highway 97.
As Deputy Mims waited for Investigator Redell Walton, lo and behold the blue car with occupants matching the description just given, pulled up. Donald Ray Powell Jr. of Chattahoochee said he was the owner of the burned vehicle. He told the Deputy the engine had blown so he left it to get later.
A few questions later he admitted to burning it. He stated he was tired of putting money in the vehicle and decided to set it on fire. Deputy Mims then asked the female, Anita Nicole Branson of Bainbridge, if she knew anything it. Anita Branson broke into tears admitting she did. 30 year old Donald Ray Powell Jr. of Chattahoochee was charged with arson in the first degree and transported to jail.
June 3
At about 6:45 am, Public Safety Sgt David Cutchin responded to a disturbance call at 430 W. College Street. Sherri Ann Johnson Tripp was standing in the road cussing and screaming at the residents of the boarding house. Sherri Ann told the officer that she was in a room, "selling some xxxxx" when one of the tenants barged into the room with a butcher's knife.
As Sherri continued to yell and cuss in the road, she was arrested for disorderly conduct. A boarding house resident reported that he was awakened by Sherri Ann shouting obscenities and waking everyone up. Another resident reported the owner had told her not to come back on the property. Sgt Cutchin asked Sherri what she was doing there and she replied, "I was selling some xxxxx!" Being booked at Public Safety, another officer asked what she had been doing. Sherri answered "I was turning a trick!" She went on and on explaining to all that would listen the expansive market in which she would offer her services. Sherri Ann Johnson Tripp was also charged with prostitution.
May 30
Sheriff's Deputy Vincent Edmond responded to Quick Buys in Attapulgus in reference to damage to property. The clerk showed the Deputy the back wall of the store had been spray painted. Deputy Edmond saw several apparent gang signs spray painted on the back wall in the colors blue and black. Deputy Edmond documented the gang signs for further investigation.
May 27
Deputy Nick Godwin responded to a call at a local junk yard. The owner was receiving a car from a tow truck driver and the ownership could not be verified. Deputy Godwin called in the vin number and it came back to a Whigham resident but a search of the glove box revealed a title to Michael Hutto. Mr Hutto was called and he stated that on Sunday, the 1994 Toyota had run hot and been left on the side of Hwy 27 in Attapulgus.
The tow truck driver told the deputy he had been called and a man named Dorse Cooper had sold it to him for $150. He said Dorse said the engine was bad and he did not have the keys. Dorse even helped him load it on the truck. Sheriff's Investigator Nix contacted Dorse Cooper and he and his girlfriend met him at the Sheriff's office. A few questions later, Dorse's girlfriend returned $71, left from the $150, and Dorse Cooper was arrested for theft of motor vehicle.
