Two 12 year old children and an 18 year old were seriously injured when Antony Osborne, drinking and driving with a suspended license, did not make them buckle up.
The 2003 Mercury was heading east on Bethel Road at about 7 pm Saturday and failed to yield. Osborne pulled out in front of a Ford pickup heading north on Highway 27. The pickup slammed into the passenger side of the car. Amanda Haifa saw the crash, called 911, and then went to assist the victims.
Osborne struggled out of the car and fell to the ground leaving the children in the car. Decatur County Fire and Rescue and a 2nd EMS unit were called to assist with the injured at the scene.
The driver of the pickup, 68 year old Ester Mitchell, was not injured in the crash. The 4 car occupants were transported to the hospital.
A little later, Anthony Osborne must have decided he did not want to go to jail on Saturday night so he slipped out of the emergency room in his hospital gown.
Public Safety Officers searched the area with no luck. He stated he was staying at Hutto McIver Apartments but after several checks through the night he was not found.
Antony Lamar Osborne, 25, of 225 North Griffin Avenue in Attapulgus will be charged with his 3rd offense of DUI, 2 counts of child endangerment, suspended license, no insurance, no registration, no seat belt, failure to yield and who knows what else.
Public Safety Officer Beau Harrell worked the crash.
