The Decatur County Board of Commissioners
March 25, 2008
On Tuesday evening Buck Powell challenged County Commission Chairman Palmer Rich that a Faceville ambulance station was being planned because of a new development there.
Mr Powell stated that Chairman Rich had said they were putting one in Faceville because of several new housing units going in there. Mr Powell asked "Why are we putting one there where all these units are going in? Who's coming in to those units?" He continued "We're bringing new people into Decatur County, and that's good, but let's protect the people that have been here a lifetime also."
Referring to the new station planned for Highway 27 south, Mr Powell asked that satellite ambulance stations be considered for all parts of the County. He told them that several years ago a member of his church, who had brain surgery, blacked out at church. He stated they waited forever for the ambulance and thought they were losing her. His Church is approximately 19 miles from the proposed new Hwy 27 County Facility.
Chairman Rich had no response to the accusation. County Administrator Tom Patton stated that serving the whole county was exactly what they had been talking about. Commissioner Perry stated he had voiced the concern for Attapulgus when he was elected and other Commissioners voiced firm support for satellite ambulance stations to be established throughout the county.
"There's no secret, there's a war going on" Josh Paske began, "to destroy the future of our youth here in our county."
Mr Paske stated the Friendship House has over 600 children enrolled with 165-185 kids attending each day. He told Commissioners he wanted to establish a partnership with the Board for the future. Mr Paske stated the Friendship House is the only service provider in the County that targets this group of kids - for free. Mr Paske stated he will keep them up to date with this County resource that is available to help our youth.
