Citizens Rescue Beaten Woman

Cries for help brought 2 College Street residents to the aid of a woman about 11 pm Thursday night.

Officer Pat Bryant arrived at the intersection of College and West Streets to find a car stopped in the middle of the street with both front doors open.

A women was sitting on the side of the street crying and bleeding from her nose and mouth.  EMS was called to treat her.

The victim was driving with her boyfriend, Jessie J Akins.  Her 2 children, 10 months old and 4 years old were in the back seat.  She reported that Jessie had asked her for money.

When she refused to give him money, he began to beat her in the face with his fist.  She stated she was calling for help and trying to get out but he kept beating her and she could not escape.

Two men heard her cries for help and came to her rescue.  It was not until they showed up that Jessie Akins stopped beating her and took off running down Anderson Street.  Public Safety Officers searched but were not able to find him.

While following up with the 24 year old victim at the hospital, Officer Bryant spotted Jessie pull up to the hospital in the back of a car and arrested him.

31 year old Jessie J Akins of Slough Loop Rd was charged with Battery-Family Violence and 2 counts of Cruelty to Children.

The 2 men that rescued her were not identified but the community gives you a big thank you for stepping up.
