April 25

DNR Ranger Jeff Phillips discovered a small quantity of meth and marijuana on a pontoon boat last Friday.  The ranger was on a routine Department of Natural Resources patrol.  Ranger Phillips contacted the Sheriff's office and Investigators Redell Walton and Chip Nix responded.  He told them the boat was in the south end of Decatur County when the drugs were discovered.  When 50 year old Jimmy Brad Dupree of Donalsonville was questioned, he invoked his rights for an attorney.  Arrested for possession of methamphetamine and marijuana along with Mr Dupree, were 54 year old Christopher Bowen, 45 year old John Childress, and 57 year old Stanley Crawford of Alabama.

April 25

Officer Archie Mills was flagged down at Helen and Cemetery St in reference to a theft from a vehicle. Mr. Arzavious Givens stated at about 5:30 pm he was parked at the burn barrel on Helen St.  He told the officer that someone reached in and took his wallet with $160 in cash and identification.  He stated he was only away from his vehicle a few minutes.

April 25

Public Safety Cpl. Aaron Brown was dispatched to West College Street in reference to an assault.  He spoke with Martinez Miguel who stated that he was jumped on by 2 males in his yard.  A witness who lives across the street from him stated that he had seen the 2 males beating him up.  The neighbor ran from his house to help.  He told the officer he saw a 3rd male running from a red car behind a business at West and College.  All 3 then jumped into the red car and sped away on College Street.  EMS transported Mr Miguel for treatment.

April 25

At about 12:30 am Officer Jason Barlow and Cpl Marvin Knight responded to Bruton St in regards to theft.  The complainant said she heard a noise on the back porch and saw a male leaving with their bike.  Her husband chased the suspect across Shotwell st heading south and was last seen on the property of 423 Bruton St.  She described what he was wearing including a red and blue cap.  Officer Barlow and Sgt Michael Hall searched for the suspect in the residence and located a male that matched the description.  He said his name was Donnell Johnson.  he stated he did not know anything about the bicycle theft.  Checking his name with 911, it was not known so they asked his name again.  They found the clothes he had been wearing and questioned him for the 3rd time about the bicycle.   He finally admitted taking the bike and told them where to find it.  He was arrested and identified by the complainant.  One of the 2 bikes stolen was recovered He also admitted his name was really Donnell Jackson.

April 21

Deputies were dispatched to Antioch Church Road in reference to neighbor problesms. The complainant stated that the problem had been going on for about 2 weeks and she had had them trespassed from her property. She told deputies that she had heard gun shots in the area and was concerned because there were children in the area. Deputies went to the neighbors house and on the porch observed a Colt. 45 laying there which the disarmed. They spoke with Christy Harrell and she stated that it belonged to her husband, William Harrell. Christy got William to come outside and according to the report William stated that he had been shooting earlier and forgot to put it away. It also states in the report that both were intoxicated. There were also 2 other adults in the mobile home as well as 3 children; 2 three years olds and a seven year old. Christy stated that the children were sleeping. The deputies asked to check the home for other unsecured firearms and they were taken into a bedroom where they observed several loaded in a corner and several more loaded guns on the bed. The guns were then disarmed by the deputies and locked in the gun safe. DFCS was notified as well as Investigator Wood. The keys to the locked gun safe was taken by the deputies. Case was turned over to Investigator Wood.

April 21

Officers responded to a Liz Felty address in reference to a theft. The complainant stated that the night before he left his truck unlocked and forgot to remove the keys from the ignition. He stated that when he went to get in his truck this date, the truck had been moved and the ignition was turned on but the truck wasn't running. The complainant also stated that his sunglasses were missingas well as a CD case. The complainant also stated that he had just reset his trip odometer and there were 30+ miles on it. Investigators were called to the scene.

April 17

Officer Demetric Stubbs responded to 815 MLK Street Apartments for a domestic in progress. He spoke to the female complainant who stated her ex-boyfriend, Tyrone, came over to her apartment grabbed her by the neck and choked her. She stated he threw her to the floor and hit her in the face. The woman had a bruise around her neck and scratches on the left side of her face and right knee. Photos were taken by Officer Jason Barlow but Tyrone was unable to be found.

April 17

Mildred Wells was laying on the side of the road face down when Capt Pat Thomas arrived at Helen and Cemetery St.  He got no response from her.  EMS arrived and got Mildred up and she struck the one paramedic in the stomach. He told her not to do that again, that he was here to help her. She hit him again.  Mildred was intoxicated and very combative and Capt Thomas arrested her. The paramedic stated that every time he or other EMTs assist Mildred, she tries to hit them or bite them.

April 16

Public Safety Officer Boyett responded to Wal-Mart to meet with the complainant in reference to forgery. The complainant stated that her bank had notified her of checks that had been written for large amounts to the store. The complainant had been able to bring information about the dates and times the checks had been written and Wal-Mart was able to retreive the video from that. The video showed the complainant's granddaughter writting the checks. The granddaughter, a juvenile and the granddaughter's boyfriend and his friend could be seen is the video. There were also 2 cash withdraws made from the complainant's account. The boys stated that they didn't know the granddaughter was forging the checks. Total the grandmother is out; $2,340.94.

April 14

Grady Hill was doing something most of us do, shopping at Wal-Mart. The difference was that he wasn't paying for the items he was taking and he was also on Wal-Mart's clock. Public Safety Investigator Brock was called to Wal-Mart. Brock was shown 4 videos of Hill 'shopping'. The first 2 show him taking a bike out the door and 3 days later taking another bike. The 3rd video shows him leaving with dog food, speakers and 2 computer monitors. The 4th video he almost made it out the door with a TV but was stopped and asked for a receipt. Hill was arrested and he bonded out to the tune of over $2,000. Now he has no job, no money and no more shopping at Wal-Mart.

April 13

There were 2 seperate incidents of dangerous dogs over the weekend. On Saturday, officers responded to Shotwell Stree at the corner of Scott. When the officers arrived, the complainant was in a standoff with the pit bull. The dog then charged at the complainant.  Cpl Aaron Brown drew his weapon and shot the dog as it was attacking. The man that owned the animal, Derrick McDowell also had 3 other dogs at an address on Scott Street however, McDowell doesn't live at that address. McDowell was arrested for dangerous dog in the city.

On Sunday evening officers were dispatched to Barber Street by Animal Control Officer. According to him this was the second time he had been to this address in reference to the dog trying to attack a 4 year old. Several attempts were made at catching the dog which was very aggressive according to the report. The dog was aggressively approaching Officer Stubbs and Officer Stubbs pulled his weapon and shot the dog. The dog ran away and was located on the owners porch. The owner James Byrd was arrested for dangerous dog in the city.

April 11

It was after 3 am when 911 dispatched a call at Hutto McIver for a report of a man in an apartment with a gun and knife. Officers reponding spoke with the complainant, who stated that her boy-friend, Ivan Hayes was in the upstairs bedroom with a knife. The woman stated that Hayes had been arguing with her all day. She stated to the officers that he had backed her in a corner and he had a knife and she had a hammer. She stated that he went up to the bedroom and she called 911. Hayes wouldn't respond to the officers demands that he leave the weapons upstairs and come down after several attempts. The officers went up to the bedroom where they found Hayes laying on the bed. When asked about the knife Hayes stated that he didn't have a knife. The knife was spotted under the pillow and officers grabbed Hayes and secured the knife. The complainant stated that she wanted him removed from the apartment (he probably wasn't suppose to be there). While officers were taking Hayes out he spit on one of the officers and when placed on the hood of one of the patrol cars continued stuggling denting the hood of the vehicles. At the station Hayes continued to make threats to the officers and would not cooperate. Hayes was taken to jail.

April 10

EMS and Public Safety responded to the all too familiar "female passed out" and laying in the parking lot call at E. Calhoun Street.  Cpl Craig Carr found Mildred Wells was laying on the sidewalk by the pay phone.  He asked what was wrong and she did not respond, laying there with her eyes closed.  EMS arrived and touched her on the arm asking her to sit up.  She tried to hit the EMS attendant.  The female EMS attendant touched her foot while speaking to her.  Mildred got up and said to her "Don't you kick me you bixxx, I'll kick your mother xxxxing ass."  Mildred continued cussing.  Mildred then backed up against the side of the building, pulled down her shorts and urinated.  Then Mildred was arrested.

April 7

Norman Hampton was arrested for disorderly conduct after officers were called to Calhoun Street in reference to a dispute. A witness stated that Hampton had punched another man in the face. According to Hampton, he and the victim were 'wrestling' when the punch occurred. Hampton was arrested for disorderly conduct.

April 7

Three females were trepassed from Wal-Mart and one of them, Jasmine Wade was arrested for shoplifting. According to Wal-Mart personnel, the 3  got chicken tenders and mac and cheese from the deli and Jasmine put it in a purse. According to the other two females, they gave Jasmine money to pay. Also found in the bag besided the tenders and the mac and cheese were 4 wallets, a bag of candy, honey mustard sauce.

April 6

Another Hampton this with the same address as Reginald's in the incident below. This Hampton is Norman AKA Candy Man and he has quite a history. Shoplifting, obstruction, robbery just to mention a few. His name surfaced when Officer Harrison responded to a residence on Foundry Street. The owner of the property, Hampton's father, stated to the officer that Candy Man knocked on his door on Helen Street at approximately 3 am and he wouldn't let him in. Hampton's father said that he thinks Hampton then went to the address on Foundry because he knew it was vacant and he needed a place to stay. The window at the Foundry Street address had been broken out and Hampton's father stated that if anyone is caught in the residence, including his son, he wants them prosecuted.

April 5

A report of shots fired in the area of Calhoun and Scott Street was dispatched. The clothing description was all black clothing and when Officer Hines arrived on scene he spotted a male with that description. The officer approached the suspect, later identified as Reginald Hampton and asked him if he was carrying a weapon. Hampton replied that he did and he was told not to move as the officer searched. Officer Hines found a 9MM tucked in Hampton's pants. He was immediately arrested for carrying a concealed weapon. The weapon came back with no wants on it.

April 3

Four juveniles were arrested for shoplifting at Wal-Mart in 2 seperate incidents. At approximately 11:00 am a male was arrested after he tried to use the self checkout registers and placed unscanned items into a bag with others that he was paying for. Then at approximately 5:30 pm, 3 juveniles and adult, Donisha Smith were arrested for shoplifting. The 4 offenders first took a handbag from display and then filled it with other items totaling over $63.00. The juveniles were turned over to their parents. The male was also released.

April 1

A frightened female call 911 as someone was trying to break in her house. At approximately 11:00 am Public Safety was dispatched to the home on McNair Street. When they arrived the offender, Herman Gaines 21, was exiting the house through the front door. Gaines stated to officers that he knew the complainant and was attempting to get some of his personal belongings. The elderly complainant stated that she did know Gaines but he had no business breaking into her home through a window. Gaines was arrested for criminal trespass.

April 1

Some people don't know when to quit and for some being arrested seems to be the solution. Officers were dispatced to Simms Street around 7:00 pm as the shift was just beginning. There they found a large crowd gathered. One 20 year old, Sherika Thomas was in the area, according to witnesses, and was in front of another female's residence with whom there was an ongoing problem. Thomas, whose address is listed as Hanover Road, was arrested for disorderly conduct.
