Even with the heat, gnats and lots of sweat, there was nothing but smiles and continuous motion at Centennial Field last Saturday.
The 1st Annual James Butler Celebrity Charity Weekend kicked off with a free football clinic for area youth. It's about the kids and giving back to the community James Butler told us. "I'm just so proud of the whole community that they have come together for a common goal. And that's what it's all about." James said. It was easy to see how passionate he is in acheiving his goal.
Centennial Field was filled with 8-14 year olds for a day of football with the pros. James Butler, along with several other NFL and Arena football players, were on the field and put the kids through their drills. Area coaches and volunteers assisted and gave the kids a football day to remember.
The weekend was a kick-off for the James Butler DREAM Program. The DREAM program teams with local organizations and focuses on mentoring, education and youth leadership. On Saturday evening, a celebrity bowling fundraiser was held at the YMCA Bowling Center.
The celebrity weekend was co-organized by EDGE 3M Sports & Entertainment. James Butler gave a lot of credit for the clinic's success to BHS Bearcats linebacker coach Kelvin Cochran telling us that Coach Cochran was tremendous help in organizing the event locally.
