4-H Shotgun Team Attends State Match

The Decatur County 4-H Shotgun Team competed in the 2012 State 4-H Modified Trap Competition at Rock Eagle 4-H Center on May 11th. The 19 Decatur County 4-H members competed against over 1100 other 4-H students from across Georgia.

Decatur County 4-H Junior Team members participating at Rock Eagle include: Tyler Allen, Nicholas Boyett, Kyle Funderburke, Brenden Greene, Carson Inlow, Dustin Moore, Daniel Poitevint, Spencer Shreves, and Chason Webster. Senior Team members competing include: Colby Boyett, Landen Bryant, Jacob Hall, James Harrell, Ryan Jordan, Justin Maxwell, Chason Phillips, Cody Powell, Maclane Suber, and James Wilson.

Decatur County 4-H Shotgun Team members with coaches participate in the State 4-H Modified Trap Competition at Rock Eagle.

In order to attend the state match, all team members must participate in a District Qualification Match. In the qualification match, Juniors must break 16 out of 25 targets and Seniors must break 20 out of 25 targets to proceed to the state competition. Decatur County 4-H hosted a District Qualification Match at Commodore Industrial Park on April 12, 2012. At this contest, Junior 4-H members Daniel Poitevint, Brenden Greene and Spencer Shreves placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively. Senior member Jacob Hall placed 1st, Senior Cody Powell received 2nd and Grady County Senior 4-H’er Brian Strickland placed 3rd. Also attending the District Match was Decatur 4-H’er Matthew Boyett.

Team members have been practicing diligently each week since February under the guidance of dedicated volunteer coaches. Coaches for the Decatur County 4-H Shotgun Team are: Joe McGlincy, Gary Phillips, Todd Powell and Mitchell May from Decatur County Extension.

The Georgia 4-H Shooting Awareness, Fun and Education Program (S.A.F.E.) is sponsored by The Georgia 4-H Foundation. 4-H is the youth development program of the University of Georgia College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences.
