Summer vacation for Decatur County students begins May 23rd.  What will kids do to fill those long, empty school hours? One local option is the full day summer camp program offered by ATLAS Educational Services of Bainbridge.

The day camp program offers weekly themed camps that incorporate art, social studies and science with games, activities and crafts.  Although it is not an academic camp, ATLAS encourages learning throughout the summer with interest based themes. This summer's list of themes includes The Science of Candy, Myths, Legends and Superheroes and Mountain Exploration.

New this summer is a preschool camp session designed for three and four year olds who have not yet been to pre-K. Preschool themes include Candy Land,   Rainbows and Sunbeams and Wild West.

According to Director, Greg McDonald, the ATLAS acronym stands for Adventures Through Learning And Service. More than just a motto, the acronym is a real goal of the program. Past service programs have included a book drive for a local charity, penny collection and baking cookies for troops. One of this summer's projects is to fill backpacks with school supplies for next school year before donating them to a local organization.

So, if you have a child looking for an adventure this summer, stop by the ATLAS campus at 908 South Scott Street for a tour or visit their webpage for more information.

More information about Atlas Summer Camps is available here as well as registration information.
