As the rain began to fall too hard to continue on Thursday, March 15th, Coach McCorkle gathered up his team in the opposing dugout, what he saw staring back at him was eighteen young men who had gone on the road with one goal in mind and that was to get back what Lee County had taken on Tuesday; Their Pride.
“We didn’t play well on Tuesday. Some of it was because of them and some because of us. When you put that together against a good team it is bound to turn out poorly,” said McCorkle.
After the embarrassing loss to the Trojans, BMS needed a win against RF Munroe to get back on track. That is exactly what they got. Even though the game was shortened to just four innings Bainbridge smacked seventeen hits and scored twenty one runs. The final score: Cats 21-0. Sixteen of eighteen players all got at least one hit in the game. Clarke Wiggins started the game on the mound for Bainbridge and picked up his second win of the year. Jimmy Nix also pitched a scoreless inning for the Bearcats.
“We are so pleased with the way all our guys performed today. We think of all our wins as team wins. Everyone has a role to play on our club. Everyone has a hand in all our success and failure whether it is on the field or in the dugout. Love your brother and pull for your teammate is something we have talked about from day one. When we get a chance to increase everyone’s role as we did on Thursday it just makes that feeling even more special,” McCorkle.
Bainbridge will play at Miller County on Monday. The team will then travel north to face Lee County on Thursday. Both games are conference games and will help to determine the seeding for the tournament. Bainbridge needs a win in one of its final two games in order to host the first round game on Tuesday, March 27th.
