Keep Decatur County Beautiful will host an electronic recycling event on Saturday, June 6 at the old Decatur County Landfill located at 2773 Fowlstown Road from 9 am to 1 pm.
The Wall Street Journal recently called electronic waste "the world's fastest growing and potentially most dangerous waste problem". Computer monitors contain an average of four pounds of lead plus small amounts of other forms of toxins including mercury and cadmium-facts courtesy of US EPA). This is why we need to make this event truly a success!
Recycling electronics allows precious metals, glass, steel and plastics to be used again. Disposing of electronics is hazardous to the environment as toxic materials such as lead and mercury enter landfills arund our communities, possibly contamination ground water.
For any questions about the event, you can contact Suzanne Brandt, KDCB, at 229-246-3611.
