Rotary Youth Clubs Have Busy Year

The Bainbridge High School (BHS)Interact and Bainbridge College (BC) Rotaract Clubs have had a very busy year. They presented their activities to members of their sponsor club, Bainbridge Rotary, recently.

The BHS Interact Club Officers, President Allison Howard, Vice President Emily Ward, Secretary Austin Spooner and Treasurer Amber Johnson each spoke about the activities which included:
*Red Ribbon Week-bringing awareness to BHS students about dangers of drugs and alcohol
*Helping at Hutto Middle School with Family Reading and Math Night
*Adoptied family for Thanksgiving and Christmas
*Rivers Alive clean up
*Assisting with elementary schools and their annual school carnivals
*Working with Keep Decatur County Beautiful to keep school area litter free
*Souper Bowl of Caring-collected food and money for area food bank
*Kids Against Hunger-packaged food that was shipped to Haiti
*Relay For Life- helped raise $2,000

Thanks to a donation from Bainbridge Rotary Club, the Interact and Rotaract club members worked together to package and supply for to over 7,000 victims of the Haiti earthquake.
The BC Rotaract Club Officers,Caitlyn Swords President, Joanne Richardson Vice President, Sarah Burch Secretary and Meghan Vickers, Public Relations, told the club of the activities they have been involved with during the 2009-10 school year. The BC Rotaract Advisors are Ann Brennan and Sheila McLendon.
*Kids Against Hunger
*Angel Food Ministries-helped prepare food boxes to feed family of 4 for a week
*Relay for Life-working with BHS Interact Club they helped raise over $2,000 for American Cancer Society
*Halloween Pet Custom Contest- Helped Decatur County Humane Society with annual fund raiser
*Canned Food Drive

Both the Interact and Rotaract Clubs expressed their appreciation to Rotary for their support. Following their presentations, Rotarian Raymond Miles stated, "If this is an example of what we have coming up in the future, I'm really proud of them."
