2010-11 Head Start Registration

The Decatur/Grady County Child Development Center will be taking applications for the Head Start 2010-2011 school year on February 8-19, 2010 from 8 am until 4 pm at Decatur/Grady Child Development Center located at 215 School Road, Climax, GA.

Those eligible for Head Start are children who will turn age 3 by September 1, 2010 through age 5. They are also seeking to enroll children with disabilities, children who are emotionally disturbed, mentally challenged, blind or visually impaired, deaf or hearing impaired, physically or otherwise health impaired, requiring special education.

Head Start provides individualized care and guidance to children, helping them fulfill their developmental potential.  Each child is considered a unique person with previous experiences, current needs, and potential for future growth. 

The Head Start Approach is also well suited to helping children with special needs including those who are emotionally disturbed, mentally challenged, blind or visually impaired, deaf or hearing impaired, speech impaired, physically impaired or otherwise health impaired, and requiring special education.
 
The Head Start Program is administrated through the Southwest Georgia Community Action Council, Inc., located in Moultrie, Georgia.  Twenty-three sites in 18 counties are presently funded to serve a total of 2,443 preschool children.  They provide services in Baker, Calhoun, Colquitt, Decatur, Dougherty, Early, Grady, Lee, Marion, Miller, Mitchell, Schley, Seminole, Sumter, Terrell, Thomas, Webster, and Worth counties.

To complete the registration procedure, applicants are asked to bring the Certified child's birth certificate (with file number), Child Care Certificate #3231 (Shot Record), Medicaid card (if applicable), If your child has any disabilities (IEP Referral), Proof of income: preferably 2009 income tax return, a check stub, statement form DFCS, a notarized statement form an employer or a W-2 form, Your Child's Lead Test Results from their 18 month check up.
