The University of Georgia Foundation recently announced the names of eleven incoming freshmen selected to receive its prestigious Foundation Fellowship.

Awardees of the scholarship, which is valued in excess of $22,000, were selected from 1,100 applicants. Among the students selected was Reuben (Ben) Reynolds II, a native of Bainbridge and 2009 graduate of Bainbridge High School. Ben, the son of Dr. John and Jean Reynolds, will major in biology.
Among his many accomplishments at during his high school career, Reynolds was; member of BHS varsiy football and wrestling team, Eagle Scout, President of the National Honor Society, Treasurer of the Key Club, Admiral of the Anchor Club, Vincent J. Dooley Award, National Merit Scholar, Earl Carr Greg winner, Ann Rand Institue semifinalist, BHS 2009 class valedictorian and STAR student of the year.
The class of 2013 Foundation Fellows boasted an average GPA of 4.11 and an average SAT score of 1524. Foundation Fellows are among the top scholars in the nation, and one was recently named as winner of a Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship. In 2008, two fellows were named as Rhodes Scholars. UGA was the only university in 2008 with two Rhodes Scholars.
Established in 1972, the Foundation Fellows Program covers the full cost of tuition at the University of Georgia. Scholars also participate in travel-study programs. Former fellows have studied in Tanzania, India, Greece and Mongolia, among other places. Fellows also participate in dinner-seminars with faculty from the university and are mentored by faculty members and senior Foundation Fellows.
Due to programs like the Foundation Fellowship, the University of Georgia Foundation continues to prove itself to be an avenue of choice for donors who wish to see their funds handled responsibly and effectively. The foundation recently announced that it will provide $533,000 for endowments and scholarships, in addition to more than $21 million in annual funding it provides to the university.
