July 26th, marks the 19th anniversary of the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act more commonly known as the ADA. BAIN, Inc. (Bainbridge Advocacy Individual Network) is sponsoring The Americans with Disabilities Act Celebration on July 25, 2009.
The purpose of the Americans with Disabilities Act is to prohibit discrimination on the basis of disability in employment, state and local government, public accommodations, commercial facilities, accessible transportation, and telecommunications. BAIN, Inc. is excited about this upcoming celebration day.
The all day event includes the march, speakers, a picnic, and simulation activities. The march starts at 8:30 a.m. in the Winn Dixie parking lot located at 915 Shotwell Street, walking up Shotwell Street, turning right on Wheat Street, and going to Bainbridge High School, where a program will follow. Following the program, everyone will have the opportunity to participate in a picnic, simulation games, and other activities.
Over 43 million Americans with physical or mental impairments that substantially limit daily activities are protected under the ADA. These activities include working, walking, talking, seeing, hearing, or caring for one-self. People who have a record of having impairments are also protected.
Come and be part of this year's celebration and you will have an opportunity to learn more about the disability movement in your community.
Let your voice be heard this day about the ADA.
The public is cordially invited to attend this exciting event.
