Student Clubs Hard At Work

The Bainbridge Rotary Club sponsors 2 service clubs for youth, the Bainbridge College Rotaract and the Bainbridge High Interact Clubs. At the recent Rotary meeting club officers gave the Rotary Club an update on their year's activities.

Representing the Bainbridge High School Interact club left to right are Paul Johns, Sarah Burch and Chris Franklin. Trista Pitts and Alan Killingsworth and one of the Bainbridge College Rotaract advisiors Lori Kuhn-Hancock.

Up first was the Bainbridge High School Interact Club. Representing the club were Chris Franklin Interact President, Sarah Burch Vice President and Paul Johns Treasurer. The 3 told the Rotarians that in order to join the BHS Interact Club, a student must be nominated by a present club member or teacher, a clean disciplinary record and a GPA of 80 or above. Each member is also required to have 20 hours of community service during each semester.

Interact club members are involved in a variety of community service projects most of which are focused on area children.
Franklin, Burch and Johns shared some of them with the Rotary Club to include:
Helping in the elementary schools helping with field days and other reward activities
Volunteering at the Headstart facilities in Climax
Adopting a local family at Christmas.
Participating in the Decatur County Relay for Life
The Kids Against Hunger project
The Decatur County Family Connection BackPack Program

Representing the Bainbridge College Rotaract Club were Alan Killingsworth Rotaract President and Trista Pitts club Secretary. Rotaract is also a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30.

The Bainbridge College Rotaract Club was just formed in the fall of 2008. And since then they have been busy in the community with their service projects.
Those projects include:
Fund raiser for the Bainbridge-Decatur County Humane Society
Helped in the Agape Shop
Participated in the City of Bainbridge Halloween event
The Kids Against Hunger project
Pack and help distribute for Angel Food Ministries
The Decatur County Family Connection BackPack Program
Participated in the Decatur County Relay for Life

Both Interact and Rotaract thanked the Bainbridge Rotary Club for their support.

Marlene Free, Rotary New Generations Chair which provides support for both the Rotaract and Interact Club stated that those involved with both of these clubs, are outstanding young citizens of the community.
