County Clerk Faye Gunn resigns as of Dec. 24.
Commissioners accept resignation.
County Administrator Bramblett sends memo to each commissioner with her demands to stay for each of their signatures.

First Read The Memo
sent to Commissioners by County Administrator Bramblett

What the heck is going on here?

Why would a 27 year County Clerk turn in a 10 day notice?
If this is true, do we want someone like this?
If she turned it in long before that, then .......
Did Bramblett know this long before?
If he did, why did he not react to it?

Seems like it was planned this way to hide it with no public comment.
Send a memo for commissioners to sign now because the next meeting is not until January so just sign it and lets go on like we have in the past.  Her demands were sure arrived at quickly after the public Commissioners meeting.  Did Bramblett already have the memo typed before the meeting?

I had one person tell me it sounded like blackmail.
Blackmail?
The memo does very much sound like demands.
She wishes to have an office adjacent mine,
What's this about?

Let's look a little closer at salary.
Gunn has stated that she does not have the time to do all she needs to do. Well instead of paying one person $23.79 per hour, we could hire 2 people.  Maybe one at $16/hour and a second at $7.79/hour and get 80 hours of work accomplished.
This will enable us to have our 3-day synopsis of the meeting and minutes that are well in advance of the present 2-week schedule.,
Yep, maybe even the next day, and maybe even typed correctly.

Some 2006 Salary Comparisons
Billy Griffin, Facilities Director $51,170.86 (I know but I included it anyway)
Jim Morris, Chief Deputy $50,863.63
??? Faye Gunn, County Clerk $49,483.20
Glenn Sellars, Planning/Bldg. Dir. $47,785.92
Don Belcher, Tax Commissioner $47,959.69
Major Linn Harrell, Sheriff's Dept $46,715.86
Major Wendall Cofer, Sheriff's Dept $46,715.86
Charlie McCann, Asst. Chief $44,118.71
Ollie Brown, Ind Park Mgr. $41,940.29
Judy Poitivient, Property Tax Director $37,601.65
Ann Mitchell, Chief Deputy Court Clerk $32,371.66

Is her job a significant #2 position in the County?
In Jim's absence is she in charge of our County?

More to consider
Her accounting duties would continue, but subservient to County Clerk.

Does this mean that if she is "too busy" doing her County Clerk duties then forgetaboutit new Finance Director, I just can't do your petty accounting stuff?

I know that long time employees are important for many many reasons.
But is there something more to this?
Is it because we are afraid that a NEW person might ask questions about some things?
Is it that they may not keep their mouth shut?

Dear Faye,
Seems to me that if I were you I would get the heck out of Dodge while the getting is good.
