The Bainbridge Wal-Mart SuperCenter recently contributed to two of the areas large upcoming events.

A check for $4,000 was presented to the Bainbridge-Decatur County Chamber of Commerce for sponsorship for Rivertown Days. This is the 5th Annual Rivertown Days and is expected to draw more participants and visitors than ever.

The Rivertown Days events begin on the afternoon of Friday, May 9th and all day Saturday May 10th. With a variety of events including bands, exhibits, entertainment for the children and a huge rummage sale and vendors on the banks of the Flint River. This is free entertainment with the exception of a $5.00 charge for the kids to enjoy all the rides, unlimited, throughout the day on Saturday. This year's new event, the River Raft Race, is sure to be exciting with homemade rafts participating.

Wal-Mart also presented a check of $2,500 to the local committee planning the Georgia Literary Festival.

Catherine Vanstone, assistant director for technology, training and development of Southwest Georgia Regional Library System, (at center) accepts the donation of $2,500 for the 2008 Georgia Literary Festival. Making the donation for Wal-Mart Store #5422 are store Manager Roy Oliver and Sharon McLendon, Community Coordinator for Wal-Mart.

The festival will be held the weekend of October 25th with an expected attendance of over 3,000. This will be the first time the festival has been held in South Georgia and is being hosted by Bainbridge College with co-sponsors Decatur County-Gilbert H. Gragg Library Foundation, the Bainbridge College Foundation, the Georgia Center for the Book, and the Georgia Humanities Council. This is a free event and will feature nearly two dozen authors. The event focuses on honoring writers with connections to the area.

According to the Bainbridge Wal-Mart SuperCenter Manager, Roy Oliver, "the Bainbridge and Decatur County citizens have shown us tremendous support and this is our way of giving back to the community. We are very proud to be part of these two great events."
