The Decatur County Sheriff's Office does more than protect and serve.  Educating the community is also a major focus for Sheriff Wiley Griffin.

On Saturday morning, Capt. Cecilia Willis and Investigator Chip Nix spent about three hours with Decatur County foster parents explaining ways to keep the children in their care safe.

The Sheriff's Office has several programs they present when requested by organizations, agencies and individuals. This day they provided information on the proper installation and use of child safety seats, child safety, internet safety and drug awareness.

Other programs that they offer include the C.H.A.M.P.S. program, P.R.I.D.E., fingerprint cards, affects of driving while impaired by drugs and/or alcohol, firearms training for women and identity theft. They also offer tips on emergency plans for your child and other useful information and the programs can be tailored.

To see more about these programs on their website.
