Thanks to an observant citizen and the Decatur County Sheriff's Office, a Meridian Mississippi couple have found their way home.

On Tuesday afternoon about 4:15 pm, 911 dispatched deputies to Highway 84 West. A Brinson resident reported a vehicle with an elderly couple circling the area for 45 minutes. Sheriff's Deputy Chad Bennett was in route to the call when 911 advised Deputy Bennett that the vehicle had just pulled out in front of a semi and were almost hit.

Deputy Bennett made contact with the couple and ran their tag and drivers license information. Everything came back valid and the couple was identified 80 year old Louise Blackwell and her husband 83 year old Cecil. The couple told Deputy Bennett that they set out for the mall earlier that morning and were having a hard time finding it. The mall they were looking for was in Meridian Mississippi. Mrs. Blackwell told the deputies that she took a left and should have gone right and just kept going.

The Blackwell's were taken to the Sheriff's office where contact was made with the Mississippi Clark County sheriff's Office. The Clark County Sheriff's located the couple's son, Carl. When Decatur County Deputies spoke with Carl he told them that he calls the couple everyday to check on them and they had never been gone this far before.

By now, it was after 6 pm and the deputies made sure the couple got something to eat. Carl was on his way but it would be at least an 8 hour trip to Decatur County. While the couple waited to return to Meridian, The Charter House Inn was notified of the situation and the couple were given a room there while they waited. Deputies checked on the couple until Carl arrived and took the couple home.

A good outcome to a bad situation. A big thank you to all involved that helped keep the couple and others safe.
