Winery Drive-Up Window

Clerks at The Winery were shocked Friday night when a stocky black male jumped through the drive-up window  grabbed some money, jumped back out and fled.

At around 11 pm it appears the man had been watching the store waiting until Linda Langdon had her cash drawer open to begin cashing up her register.  The suspect then stood and waited behind a car at the drive up window until it was finished and walked up to the window.  He asked to buy 2 cigars.  When Diane Bullock turned to the 2nd register to ring up the sale he jumped through the open drive-up window.

Both Linda and Diane backed away from the suspect and both began screaming.  The suspect grabbed some money out of the register, jumped back out of the window and fled.  The screaming probably had the suspect so upset that he failed to see a stack of cash sitting beside the register.

Public Safety responded to the 911 call and searched the area.  After further investigation and viewing the tape of the robbery, PSO Craig Carr and Investigator James Dollar arrested Gary Lewis Scott about 1 1/2 hours later.  He was found at a house on Washington St.

A shoplifter at Bob's was also caught by Public Safety ealier in the evening.  The suspect, known as Candyman, was identified on the store video and witnesses.  Candyman is Norman Hampton.  Decatur County Sheriff's had an active warrant for his arrest as well.  He was tracked down a little later by Captain Fred Black and was arrested and taken to jail on the Sheriff's Department warrant.
