The "Pennies for Paws" fund raiser for the Bainbridge-Decatur County Humane Society was a wonderful success according to Suzy Loeffler, Humane Society member.

The fund raiser, which began on August 21st, was conducted in all the elementary schools in the  county. The program at the schools presented by Suzy and Frank Loeffler, provided information to the students on the shelter and also how to care for their pets. There was also the added benefit of lessons in math.

Ice cream parties will be given to the winning classes at each of the schools. The grand total of monies collected was $5,223.12. According to Mrs. Loeffler the only problem was picking up the money. The children took the "Pennies for Paws" quite literally and that much money in pennies takes a hand truck to move.

The winning school was Jones Wheat, students collected $1,272.71. The school will be presented a plaque for their generosity. "I was amazed at the response", stated Mrs. Loeffler. I never expected this kind of response." Thanks to the students, teachers and parents for helping make this successful.
