Military Family Support Group Forms

A new support group is being formed for the families and friends of deployed soldiers. For the slider it is always comforting to know that there is community support for their loved ones while they are gone or will be deployed in the future.

The meeting will provide fellowship to the families through group discussions, share the burden of having a loved one deployed, provide information to important resources, network with others who have common interests, educate each other to special needs of military families, bring in guest speakers on coping strategies and anything else the group decides is important to them.

The support group is the brain child of Allen Ware. He wasn't in town when the troops left and has been waiting for someone to assist those left. When that didn't happen, he felt called to minister to those that might be in need of support, so he decided to get the ball rolling. His first stop was to see Melissa Dalton, our area Family Assistance Co-ordinator with the Georgia National Guard. After getting some ideas from her, a time and place for the first meeting was established.

Any and everyone interested in the support group are encouraged to attend. The first meeting will be May 24th at 7:00 pm in the chapel at Cox Funeral Home. If you would like more information please contact Allen Ware at 246-4411 or Melissa Dalton at 248-2694 extension 8484.
