On Christmas Eve, Buddha took the place of the Nativity Scene in Willis Park.

Dr. John Vanzo, a Bainbridge College Assistant Professor, stated he wanted to counter balance the Nuttings display to make sure there was a diversity.

Dr. Vanzo stated he did not want the appearance of the city having a preference towards one religion.  He chose December 23, 24 and 25 because that was the days he thought the Nuttings would have the Nativity displayed.

When asked if he was Buddhist, Dr Vanzo responded that he appreciated the Buddhist philosophy.  Buddha's birth is celebrated on April 8th.

The unmanned Nativity scene was relegated to a storefront doorway.
