Heavy smoke filled Bruton Street Wednesday afternoon as another fire struck a home readying for Christmas.

Matilda Jackson was preparing lunch when the fire broke out in the kitchen.  It quickly spread into several other rooms and then into the attic area.

What the flames didn't destroy the smoke and water did.  Public Safety was quickly on scene and made their way to the fire through the heavy gray smoke.

30 second video of the fire scene

Ms. Bell, who lives at the residence with her disabled daughter and her 7 year old grandson, hadn't been home long from getting toys for the 7 year old from Salvation Army.

Everyone escaped from the house but all their possessions as well as the toys were gone.
