A burglary of Beef O'Brady's resulted in the arrest of 30 year old Scott McStay and 31 year old Ian O'Quinn by Public Safety officers less than 4 hours later.

An alarm responded Public Safety to Beef O'Brady's at about 1:45 am Tuesday night.  Officer Dexter Sapp arrived to find the front door glass shattered and alerted oncoming officers.

As he was arriving, Officer Jason Barlow noticed a vehicle leaving the area and made a stop on Hall Street behind Walmart.  The occupants were emphatic they knew nothing about the break-in but reported they had seen a silver Jeep Cherokee with a Florida tag riding the area.

The restaurant owners arrived and viewed the video with Sgt Jon Harrison.  The video showed a white male entering the front door and proceed directly to the office.  The suspect then went to the alarm panel and tried to disarm the alarm, but failed to enter the correct code.  He went back to the office and a minute late left the building taking with him an undisclosed amount of money had been stolen from the business.

The owner stated that the suspect appeared to her to be Scott McStay, a manager they had fired several weeks earlier for stealing.  Sgt. Harrison made contact with someone who knew Scott and found his home was at 322 South Monroe Street.  When Sgt Harrison and Cpl Brian Boyett arrived at the address, they discovered a silver Jeep Cherokee with a Florida tag in the driveway.

Sgt Harrison questioned Scott McStay and his partner, Ian O'Quinn, who stated they had been home all night.  Sgt. Harrison explained the situation and asked to search the home.  They denied the request.  He then asked to search the vehicle and was again denied consent.

In the Jeep, Sgt. Harrison and Cpl Boyett spotted a hammer that may have been used to break the glass.  Investigator Chris Jordan advised them to arrest the 2 for burglary.  At that point, Ian O'Quinn admitted that Scott had not been at home all night.

Sgt. Harrison asked Scott if he had anything to say, and after being struck with the fact he was caught, stated "I will tell ya" and admitted to the burglary.  Scott retrieved a black bag filled with the stolen money from a clothes hamper and officers retrieved the hammer from the Jeep which Scott admitted using to bust the door.

Hugh Scott McStay, 30, and William Ian O'Quinn, 31, both of 322 S Monroe Street were charged with burglary.
