Decatur County's unemployment rate edged back up in preliminary figures released by the Georgia Department of Labor. Decatur County's September unemployment rate was 12.7%, up from August's 12.3%. This is .4% below June's 13.1%.
Unemployment in most of the Southwest Georgia Counties edged up while Miller County dropped to 8.7% from the previous month's 8.9%. Decatur County's labor force decreased 146 people, while losing 176 employed persons, and increasing the unemployed by 30 to 1,528 persons.
The State of Georgia unemployment rate remained unchanged at 10.1% from August to September. The September jobless rate was up 3.5 percentage points from 6.6% at this same time last year. Georgia’s unemployment rate remained above the national rate of 9.8% for the 23nd consecutive month.
