The 1st Annual Domestic Violence Candlelight Vigil was held on Thursday evening at the 1st United Methodist Church's O.J. Smith. Several that attended spoke with us.
A Survivor's Story
This is the story of and from a domestic abuse survivor, obviously a strong woman because after 2 and a half years of abuse, she was able to break free of the cycle.
Even now, 8 years later, you hear the emotion in her voice as she tells her story. She has committed to helping others free themselves of the chains of abuse.
Some Do Not Survive.
In December of 2009, a Decatur County man took the life of his spouse and their 7 year old son in a double murder suicide.
Tonia Swords had left him 2 days earlier, but allowed herself to be lured back, with their son, presumably to talk and visit.
Tonia's mother spoke with us and explains why she has the need to help others get free.
