A kitchen fire at the Circle Drive home of Betty Moore burned a portion of their home on Sunday night.
Public Safety Officers and GSP, all in the area of the home invasion, responded to the fire reported at about 1:20 am. GSP Cpl Kyle Duke arrived on scene first and reported the home was fully involved.
As Public Safety Officers donned their fire fighting gear, Cpl Duke, Trooper Walt Landrum and Trooper Brian Palmer pulled hoses off the fire engine. Troopers Duke and Palmer hit the fire in the front of the house and then Trooper Landrum hit the fire that had spread into the rear carport area.
With as quickly as troopers got water on the fire, the flames were knocked down which enabled Public Safety to contain the fire to a much smaller area of the home. Black smoke poured from the home as Public Safety fire fighters made entry.
Ms Moore stated that the fire began when one of the 4 that reside at the home was cooking in the kitchen. She stated that they left the kitchen for couple of minutes and returned to find the kitchen in flames. Circle Drive is a short street that runs between Japonica and Wisteria Streets.
Public Safety fire fighters worked over an hour tearing out walls and ceilings to assure all was extinguished.
