Persistence, and a good chase, by Georgia State Trooper Cpl Kyle Duke resulted in the arrest for multiple charges of a 20 year old motorcyclist who thought he was going to get away. Christopher Richard Thompson was surrounded and arrested on Highway 253 north at about 9 pm last Thursday.
Trooper Duke spotted the speeding biker heading into Bainbridge on Dothan Road and went after him. Thompson turned north on Griffin Street and took off. He sped to Talmadge where he turned right and then turned on Lake Drive. Cpl Duke was some distance behind him as he took off north heading out of the city.
The speeding biker continued on Lake Drive and onto Pondtown Road reaching speeds over 100 mph. Trooper Duke stayed after him barely keeping him in sight. Thompson turned east and hit Highway 253 and headed south back towards Bainbridge.
Additional GSP units and Sheriff's Deputies were responding to the area as Bainbridge Public Safety responded to the county line at Highway 253.
The biker was hit speeds over 125 mph as he swerved around cars from lane to lane toward Bainbridge. Thompson swerved around another car and then to the side of the roadway thinking that he was going to make a u-turn as GSP Duke went by.
Not so easily done as Cpl Duke slammed on his breaks and headed right towards the 20 year old. Not a problem, Thompson must have thought. And looked forward to take off straight. Oops, there's GSP Walt Landrum and Brian Palmer bearing down on him from ahead.
Hands go up, Thompson goes down and then on to jail. In addition to DUI, Cpl Duke charged Christopher Richard Thompson, 20, of 1706 Belcher Lane with fleeing or attempting to elude police officer, reckless driving and several other traffic charges.
Christopher Thompson arrests that we have included on BainbridgeGA include DUI and speeding in March of 2009 and theft by taking and criminal trespass in September 2007.
