There were 2 fatalities in a single car crash on Antioch Church Road Monday evening at about 6:30 pm. The victims wre identified as 61 year old Milton (Monk) Hamilton of Antioch Church Road and 44 year old Darla Porter of Havana FL.
Georgia State Trooper Walt Landrum stated the driver was traveling north on Highway 262, Antioch Church Road. Coming around a curve, Mr Hamilton ran off the edge of the road, overcorrected and lost control of the vehicle.
The car traveled across the road and into a ravine where the vehicle struck several trees. The car came to rest laying on its side. First responders, arriving on scene within minutes, reported the victims appeared to be dead at that time.
Fire and Rescue, Sheriff's Deputies and Attapulgus volunteers secured the scene until County Coroner Peter Bruton arrived to pronounce the deaths.
Today was Darla Porter's birthday and the two were only a mile and a half away from arriving at Milton Hamilton's home.
