One of the many victims of the storm on Saturday night was Shaun Darley, whose car ended up in the middle of a flooding creek.
Shaun Darley stated he had been without power for 2 days and went to check if any neighbors had their power on. Darley, who lives on Carl Cloud Road, said he was concerned about his 2 year old baby that suffers with asthma.
At about 10:30 pm, he was traveling on Lake Douglas and the rain was very heavy as he was crossing a narrow bridge. He reported that he lost control of his car and it began to spin. The car left the roadway and traveled down a steep embankment.
Darley told us that the car came to rest on the rocks and he was able to escape through an open window. He stated the car was then swept on into the creek and disappeared in the rushing water. In the pitch black of the night, Darley made his way back to the road.
He tried to call 911 on his cell phone but kept loosing the connection so Darley decided that he would walk back to his house. He luckily only suffered a scraped knee and a cut nose. Darley told us he was more scared trying to find his way in the dark than he was in the car.
Heidi and Dan Bryant live in the area and with power out they were staying with family. They were on the way to check on their house and spotted Darley walking in the road. They stopped and called 911.
On Sunday, Darley went back to the scene to have the car towed out of the water. Gator and James Bryant pulled the car back up the same embankment it went down, only a little slower.
