The City of Bainbridge held an open meeting on Tuesday evening for input on features local skaters would want to see included in their skate park.
A 15,000 sq ft skate park is planned for Cheney Griffin Park in the location of the old tennis courts. It is a part of the waterfront development being coordinated by the Genesis Group.
Micah Shapiro of Grindline, a major US skate park design build company, reviewed a number of parks and features available for the dozen skaters that attended. At any one time, Grindline is typically building 4-7 parks somewhere in the country plus a number of parks in the planning stages.
Micah Shapiro stated he has skated all his life and fell into skate park design. He said when he was young, he would help build skate ramps etc for friends. After building a huge concrete bowl in a friends back yard, he joined with friends that started Grindline. Now, 20 years later, he has every skater's dream job.
Al Kelley, Leisure Services Director, asked for emails from skaters so they may be alerted to the next meeting. If you were not able to attend, and would like to be notified, please let us know.
Grindline would also be happy to hear from skaters that did not attend regarding features they would like to see in the park. Let us know and I will forward his email address to you to send suggested features or pictures.
