School supplies and backpacks were provided today to several hundred kids this morning by the Hero Foundation, a project of Liz Tomlin.
Ms Tomlin told us (in video) that they had prepared to distribute supplies to about 250 kids on Wednesday morning.
She stated they quickly went through all they had so they purchased more supplies and did it again on Wednesday afternoon. She stated all were very grateful, telling us "Even the little kids were saying thank you."
Ms Tomlin tells us that she has been doing this since 1996 to help people. She told us they also help kids with their GED and proudly stated that 2 of the GED kids just graduated college.
Shameka Washington (in video) also donated hairdos, at her Clay Street beauty shop, for a number of girls this week, and later on Wednesday, haircuts for the boys were donated by Sweets Barber Shop.
Ms Tomlin stated that if anyone would like to help the Hero foundation help people, a donation is always appreciated. To donate, contact the foundation executive director, Dr Myra Evans, at 229-248-2230. The Hero Foudation was awarded a $75,000 grant through US Representative Sanford Bishop for the last couple of years.
