Sheriff's Deputy Vince Edmond made several busts on traffic stops over the weekend.  Several went to jail, and one, will go for a long time.

During a traffic stop on Saturday night, Earl Marvin Tillman III did not want to got to jail.  With handcuffs on, he took off and never slowed down.

Deputy Vince Edmond stopped a vehicle just off Highway 97 south on Whispering Pines for failure to maintain lane.  Earl Tillman, a passenger in the car, was found with marijuana, cuffed and placed in the back of the patrol car.

Billy Ray Hand Jr, the driver, was being road tested for DUI when Deputy Edmond heard a very loud banging in his car.  Tillman was beating on the cage of the car.  Deputy Edmond found that Tillman had slipped his handcuffed hands from behind him to the front.

The deputy got Tillman out of the car and was talking to him about the violent behavior when he took off running.  Deputy Edmond chased him for several blocks before returning to the car to secure the car's driver and other passenger.

At the car, Billy Ray Hand Jr, 17, of Hand Road was arrested and charged with DUI-drugs and failure to maintain lane.

Deputies searched the woods for Tillman with no luck.  (I figure when you are on probation for 10 years, and decide to run, you better keep running.)

Earl Marvin Tillman III will be charged with escape, possession of marijuana and criminal interference of government property.
