The Deep South Riders and McDaddys contributed over $1300 to the Salvation Army on Friday afternoon.
Deep South Riders had a Poker Run that generated the cash contribution plus about 260 cans of food that went into the Salvation Army storeroom. For the Poker run, McDaddys Sport's Grill agreed to contribute a percentage of their proceeds for the day.
Below, a check for over $1,000 from DSR and over $300
from McDaddy's is presented to Dennis Long.
Salvation Army Director, Dennis Long, stated that since assuming the position, he has quickly learned that Bainbridge is very supportive of the our Salvation Army. Mr Long took the position in June. Zane Wise coordinated the Poker Run for DSR.
Contributing to charity is nothing new to bikers or the Deep South Riders. Bikefest has donated over $600,000 raised from the annual Bikefest event. The majority of the donations go to help children's charities, plus a significant amount goes to local worthy causes.
Planning for a long running event, early on Bikefest purchased property for the event. 100 acres was purchased almost 10 years ago, and will soon be paid in full. Plans are to hold the 2009 Bikefest at the new property on Pondtown Road in north Decatur County.
Phillip Hornsby talked a few minutes about the property, the volunteer effort that has been put in, and the facilities for next year. There has been about 80 acres cleared and readied for grass seed that is planned for next week. At this time, there is a metal building and a well on the property with plans for a road and a permanent stage erected for 2009.
BikeFest 2008 will be held at Commodore Industrial Park Wednesday, September 17th, through Sunday, September 21th.
