Public Safety made their annual presentation to the City Council on Tuesday evening reporting statistics for the past 12 months.
Fire Chief Dennis Mock reported Public Safety's response time to a fire has dropped 12 seconds from 2007, reporting
Average response time to fire calls
2007 - 2 minutes 22 seconds
2008 - 2 minutes 10 seconds
75% to 80% of fires are extinguished by the Public Safety officer arriving on scene before the first fire truck even arrives, Chief Mock reported to Council. (The City's Public Safety approach, where officers are both qualified police officers and fire can be credited for this extraordinary statistic.)
