Another Black Jack area home was destroyed by fire on Thursday evening. The fire was discovered and reported at about 8 pm by Sheriff's Deputy Brett Trammell who spotted and investigated the smoke seen above the trees.
The fire was raging in the rear of the home and smoke billowed from the eaves as fire units began to arrive. The home sits back from the road hidden by the surrounding trees.
A downed power line sparked dangerously in the back yard until power could be cut off. Decatur County Fire and Rescue, Black Jack and Climax volunteer units plus other area volunteer firefighters fought the blaze.
The fire had jumped into the attic area and spread making it very difficult for firefighters to get to and extinguish the fire. Firefighters were on scene at 140 Black Jack Road for about 3 hours to assure the fire was completely extinguished.
The Powell family were said to be out of town.
