Investigator Strickland stated they were able to develop information to now charge 21 year old Derrick Rashaw Miller of 308 Campbell Road and the driver of the "getaway" car, Yosuf Young, for the armed robbery.
As reported in our June 9th robbery article, minutes after the robbery, an alert Miller County Deputy Dale Mitchell followed and then stopped a suspicious vehicle on Highway 310. Investigators Strickland and CSI Gale Bowyer were called to the stop.
They discovered what appeared to be the stolen cash in Miller's pocket. The driver, Yosuf Young, was arrested for DUI habitual violator. With no hard evidence, Miller was released.
But, the next day, Probation Officer Shawn Johnson arrested Derrick Miller on a parole violation with an original charge of burglary.
What was not reported, was the many man hours the Sheriff's Department put into the case the next day. Under the assumption these suspects were the robbers, they knew the 2 had fled the robbery down Whites Bridge Road. Led by Sheriff Wiley Griffin, a law enforcement crew walked Whites Bridge Road for about 8 hours.

Florida Fish and Game Officers, search dogs from Florida State Hospital Police, along with Captain Bowyer, Investigator Strickland and other deputies, for about 8 hours they searched every foot of the ditches and brush for the mask and gun the 2 suspects did not have in their possession when stopped the previous night.
Late in the afternoon, they were successful. They discovered what is believed to be the mask worn by Derrick Miller in the robbery. The mask has been sent for DNA analysis.
