A 19 year old man appears to have laid unconscious on the side of Fleming Street for 8 hours after a hit and run on Tuesday night.
Video of scene, friends indicate where Alfredo was discovered
Alfredo Hernandez left the house sometime between 10 and 10:30 pm telling his father he was going to the store for a soda. His father, Morales Jose (in white shirt at left) stated when he came out of the house at about 6:15 am, he discovered his son battered and unconscious on the side of the street.
Bainbridge Public Safety Officer Jason Barlow responded to 712 Fleming Street to what was originally thought to be an assault. The officer reported cuts on Alfredo's face and hand with blood coming from his mouth and ears. There was a very large cut on the back of his head, bruising on the right side of his rib cage and scrapes on his arms, legs, and buttocks. EMS treated the victim and transported him to the hospital.
Investigator Chris Jordan was called to the scene. Investigator Jordan stated that, based on the injuries Alfredo received, he believes it was a hit and run where the victim was actually run over by a vehicle which fled the scene. Inv. Jordan stated Alfredo sustained very serious injuries including a fractured skull, 2 broken collarbones, broken rib, punctured lung and a crushed pelvis.
Alfredo told Inv. Jordan that he could not remember what happened. The last thing he remembered was leaving the house for a soda and then awakening on the side of the street in the morning. Inv. Jordan stated there was no alcohol or drug use.
His father and friends told us that Alfredo had been transferred to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. They also stated that when they discovered Alfredo, he was able to recognize and speak their names. They stated his cell phone had been crushed and his shoes and wallet were found in the roadway. His money remained in his wallet.
