Public Safety is often called to deal with unwanted subjects but the one they had at 405 Collier Street, next to Boulevard Park, Saturday morning required special handling.
A passerby had called 911 after spotting an alligator in the driveway.
The homeowner, Gerald Woodward, stated that he had seen the gator before. "It was jaywalking across the street going toward the pond. I didn't call that time 'cause I figured it would be gone when the police got here." This morning the gator, estimated to be about 4 feet long and 75 pounds, was on his carport.
With the help of the dog catcher pole, Sgt Ray Cox was able to get it as it went across a short wall and hid behind a car. The gator wasn't too happy about being restrained and went into a 'death roll' several times.
Benny West arrived on scene and, after taping the gator's mouth shut, simply picked up the gator and walked away. The gator is going to a new pond.
Mr. Woodward stated that there is a small hole in the fence around the pond and he believes that the gator couldn't find its way back.
A larger alligator has also been reported spotted around the same area.
